How forgetful are you?

I'm only 26 and yet I have a habit of forgetting things. Not anniversaries or birthdays though but things like, where I left my keys when all the while it's in my pocket or where did you put my glasses but it's actually on top of my head or whenever I got out and bring an umbrella with me, I always arrive home without it. Or like, I have to go to one room of the house to do something but when I go there I completely forget what it is and I have to circle round the house to remember what it was that I have to do. My friends even tease me that I'm like Dory who has from Finding Nemo who has a short memory span. How about you? How forgetful are you and what are the things that you most forget?

Early signs of ahlziemers i'm afraid. joking. its just that for short term memory one remembers things one considers important. if you conciously will your self to remember these small things you will.

I know. I really don't feel it's much important to remember, maybe that's why I forget about it but when it comes to important stuff like birthdays, anniversaries or exams, I'm really quite good at remembering.

OMG you sound just like me and I am only 23 .. I have a terrible memory and like you its really stupid things like why I have gone into a certain room in the house.. I always remember birthdays and important stuff but sometimes I get really worried about whats going on in my head.. I think I get distracted too easy that's half of my problem.. I'm so worried about what I will be like in my older years if my memory is already like this..

I am 27 and always forgetful. I have ADD though so I forget cause of that but still something distracts me and my thoughts are gone and well I cant recall stuff for a while. Sometimes I forget things till something reminds me of it again. Sad but true.

I'm lucky coz even if i'll be 45 next month, i'm not forgetful. I have a photographic mind that i could even remember where i can find the thing i need or where i left them. It saves a lot of time because i can find the things immediately.

I'm like you sometimes. But I think it is because we are thinking of many things as a time. There is a part of our brain that has our memories stored. From our class before, I have learned that there are certain things that we really forget after a few seconds or minutes. It is because memory is divided to two. Long-term memory and short-term memory. That's all I can share for now. :) I guess I better read more. :)

Most of the things you mentioned are pretty normal. I am way, way older than you are and I have had some of your examples all my life. They have not gotten any better or worse as I grew older so I wouldn't worry about them if I was you.

That's is me you were writing about. I'm totally forgetful and it has gotten me into trouble several times. I think part of the reason why I'm so forgetful is that my mind is not always where I am... what about you? can you point out any reason for your forgetfulness?

I can't think of any reason, just that it may be natural to forget about little stuff because you brain tends to sort things into which it would put into long term memory or short term memory...Then again, maybe I just need to drink some vitamins to improve my memory.

Oh, a lot of my friends had been warning about that. They say when you have C section they put anesthesia on you and I could forget a lot more!

I can so relate to your situation. I'm turning 34 and it happens to me all the time. I often ask myself, "what am I going to do or get here?" when I go to a place and forget my purpose. Other forgetful people that I know would go back to where they've been first before they came into the place. So for example they were in the kitchen before they went into the garden, they will return to the kitchen in the hope that they will remember what they came to the garden for. Have you tried doing that? I lose a lot of good ideas because of this, so I had to put down in writing what comes to mind to keep track of my ideas. My brain must be getting old. I attribute my being forgetful for staying up very late whenever I'm in front of the computer doing freelance work. It's a brain damaging habit, I know, but that's the only time that I can do my part time job as I have a full time job. I just compensate for it by taking supplements to revive and energize my brain.

Yes, I try to come back to the place I was before I forgot but I still can't remember that's why I circle around the house to remember coz I'm THAT forgetful. LOL. I've had discussions that I forgot to post because I'm so forgetful that's why I always write down an idea on my mobile.

I'm pretty forgetful about alot lol. I'll be 26 next month :) My husband and I both are...we'll say "hey remind me to do this" and we never remember. I do the same thing, i'll go to a room to do something and forget it. I blame it on having kids lol.

LOL. I remember a time when one of my friends asked me to remind her to get something while we were shopping and I just looked at her and it suddenly dawned on her that I'm not really the right person to ask that from so she said, "never mind" and we both laughed.

You're not alone girl, I am 28 and I have experienced the same things that you have had experienced. The worse thing I've had so far was while I was taking a bath. I was shampooing my hair when all of a sudden, I was standing inside the shower asking myself if I had soaped my whole body. I had to soap myself again to remember if i had done it already. I got really scared at that moment. This started when I was in my early 20's, I have a hormonal imbalance and amenorrhagia (absence of menstruation) and recently got into a dilattage and curettage procedure where I was given a general anesthesia. I guess the anesthesia made mine worse. I was advised to take Vitamin Zinc and exercise your brain by reading lots of books, magazines, etc...whatever is available to read. You should try it too coz my memory has improved quite reasonably lately. I just got a perfect score in my exam (didn't forget a thing, esp in the enumeration part) heehee...goodluck :)

LOL. I've also experienced that bath thing! It's so funny. I also forgot if I soaped by body and when I soaped it again to be sure, just when I was washing my legs, I remembered that I already did! LOL. Maybe I'll try the Zinc thing. I'm hopeless at enumerations. I could never perfect it coz I always forget either one or two! Thanks for the tip, I'm studying Law and I really have to do good at memorizations.

well, I am 28 and extremely forgetful, don't worry it's stress related, it happens to the busiest of us. I can do something and in a second I will have already forgot. My husband worries about my forgetfulness. I sometimes do to.. like you I can have my keys in my hand and be looking for them, or my purse on my shoulder and be looking for it. I do that in stores alot and then I'll be in a complete panic searching for it, my husband will then remind me and shake his head. I think distraction plays a big part as well.

LOL. I know about the panicking part. Like when my boyfriend and I are out, I asked him to hold my wallet and after a few minutes, I started to panic because I thought I left my wallet at the store we just got to and my boyfriend would show me the wallet in his hand and just shake his head.

i am turning 29 within this year and my boyfriend is so fascinated on how forgetful i am. and sometimes, he's annoyed about it. we talk about an issue or a fact and seconds later, i ask again... he's kinda puzzled if i am listening or not. ofcourse i am. i just easily forget things a lot. but i never forget dates. i am good at it just like you. my boyfriend sometimes laughs at me and jokes about my being forgetful... like having early signs of alzeimer's. hehe. i hope there's a cure for this! happy myLotting natalie!

Oh jeez, I do hope it's not a sign of Alzheimer's. I also do that a lot with my boyfriend. Like we're talking and then when we get interrupted, he kinda gives me a pop quiz and asks what we were talking about and I just come up blank but I was really listening!

I forget... LOL. I am also one to get up and head in a specific direction and then in mid stride forget where I was headed and why! So annoying! hate it. Or I head out to do 2-3 things like grab the clothes hamper, grab hangars, and get linerie bag- I will get into the laundy room with 1 of the 3 or something to that effect! Alsp annoying. I tell myself to stop and think it through and I even forget to do that LOL... there is no hope apparently. Multitasking has it's drawbacks.

I am 25 and for years my memory has been going down the tubes. But like you say it's just little things. I forget peoples last names, things like that but it's mostly things I am supposed to do. Unless I write a note, even if I don't read it again, as long as something is written down I will remember to do it! I love Dory! Ellen was a great choice for her voice!! "Just keep swimming.."

i think you are thinking about all the matters very seriously thats why your memory is acting to forgot the things. i also feel it in my life but when i realize dthat i will take any matter seriously then i would forgt more important things also. so take care of that about which matters you are more serious and about some you want to forget them if you are muslim do and start your prayers regularly and recit the holy Quran daily in the morning, also it is very necessary to get up early in the morning. take care of you and keep me in your prayers and in good wishes thanks Allah Hafiz
