Hi , has anyone out there had the experience of having a premature baby ?

My son , Joshua , will soon be having his first birthday . He really is a miracle baby to have got this far . He was only 1 1/2 pounds when he was born at 25 weeks gestation ,quite literally the size of my hand . We were told not to expect him to survive and he fought a long hard battle to do just that . He had 5 blood tranfusions , suffered a serious blood infection , had a heart valve closed , suffers from chronic lung disaes and much much more besides . Yet here we are now and I cannot quite believe it ! He is strong and well with a larger than life attitude ! Bless him x Would be happy to chat and/or offer advice to other families going through this traumatic experience .

hi and thanx for the welcome . I'm so glad your daughter is doing so well . I also had pre-eclampsia and a c section . Scary stuff . hard to think about it now . think I've blanked out quite alot of my own experiences at the hospital . Josh was in special care for 3 months , most of which was over a hundred miles from home . I think the worst part of it was being physically seperated from my little boy when he needed me most . Best wishes to you all

I'm glad to hear that your son is doing well. I had a baby at 28 weeks gestation she weighed 2 lbs 1 1/2 ozs. She did have to have a couple of blood tranfusions and was oxygen for almost 2 months. She is 11 months old and she weighs 22 lbs now. She's very healthy now. She has to see a Physical Therapist because the doctor says her muscles aren't as strong as they should be. Did your son do things slower than what the doctors said was normal? My daughter just started to army crawl and people act like it's such a big deal that she isn't crawling like other babies. It bothers me a little bit that people think or act like she's slow. I feel that she is doing a great job and want other people to see that. Can you offer me any advice?
