http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6583893.stm with advancements in AI technology and robotics, it is becoming more and more likely that robots will be a part of our future? Would you like it? Do you fear it? Robots will first work for the military and it is possible that they will become a part of our every day lives. How long do you think before this happens? Scientists have expressed concern about the implications, especially for military use, does this concern you at all? The ethical dilemna of robots, will Robots have rights. Have you seen the movie IRobot and what did you think about it?

OH YES I AM AFRAID OF THE LONG TERM IMPLICATIONS OF ADVANCED ROBOTICS. WE ALWAYS HAVE THAT DOUBLE EDGED SWORD IN HUMAN NATURE. LOOK AT TECHNOLOGY AND THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION IN GENERAL. We are technologically advanced but not spiritually. Why in this world there are still billions of people starving and dying through wars, famine, disease and poverty? Now ca you imagine a world where robots will do more work and we will have greater unemployment with a population growth going through the roof?

You are so right about it being a double edged sword. With all this technology comes a responsibility, but are we as a human race really dealing with that. We have so much growing to do, spiritually for humanitarian reasons. Good answer, thank you yanjiaren. Kindest regards. :)

robots are already here i mean you can get an automatic robot hoover and a desktop robot or puppy even automatic cleaners in japan with all the robot programs scientists must have robots and very rich people but i watch a lot of sci fi and in the films about the future the robots take over the world as they are so advanced not like man created them also they live on other planets you only have to watch starwars and stargate to see how many different kinds of robots there are or could be

That's great, about the automatic robot hoovers and cleaners! :) I just wish they were more common so that the price would come down and we could all afford one! Maybe one day a robot cleaner will be just like having an automatic washing machine?

yes I would love robots to do all my housework for me so that I did not have it. It would make my life so much easier as I am very sick now.

that would be a very good use for robots, to do the housework and garden. It would make life much easier and especially if a person needs assistance. Sorry to hear that about your health Rose, hoping for your health to improve.

I think it would be really neat as long as they don't go crazy like they did in the movie IRobot.

I think that robots can be productive as long as they don't take over in such a way that we become useless compare to robots. In regards to the movie IRobot, I don't think that it would be possible for this to happen to our society.

I can't see it getting to be that advance for a long long time, if ever.

Well, for me this is just another machine like computers etc. which help us with our daily chores. The only thing I want is not to be a slave of these machines. Otherwise, anything which facilitates work and helps to increase productivity should be welcome. Robots can play a much bigger role than we have seen hitherto with other machines. Imagine, a robot working like a maid at our homes. They can do all the cleaning, answer phones, open doors, work in the kitchen and even talk. But sometimes I hate to confront them unnecessarily. For example, take the case of voice mails. Nowadays, if we call someone, we go through a long list of voice recordings and voice mails. There should be some limits to their use. Same is the case with robots. They should not be every where unnecessarily as otherwise we will lose human touch. We have also to ensure that these robots do not become dangerous. Their use will entail a lot of user training and education. So long as they do not replace human beings, I will welcome their use in day today life.

This is such a great answer for so many reasons. Absolutely! and we need technology, so what is to be afraid of? Progress? It will happen anyway, but as you rightly say - there needs to be safeguards.
