Just wondering what all the nice people here on MyLot are planning to have for dinner tonight. No matter where you are from, I'd love to see your dinner menu for this evening. I like to get ideas from others. Simple or complex. Takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.. whatever it may be - what will you be having for dinner? I'm going to attempt to make Beef & Broccoli for the first time ever. I picked up some beef strips perfect for stir-frying and some bunches of broccoli crowns. I also found a little packet of seasoning for Beef & Broccoli which says I need to add Soy-Sauce to. This should be interesting since I do not own a Wok and will attempt to make this in a regular frying pan. I'm going to make some steamed rice to go with it. That will be easy because I have a rice cooker and we have made it many times before. Has anyone else ever made this dish? How did it turn out? Any suggestions? I do not do well the first time I try recipes. I need to try them a few times and mess with the method before it turns out the right way. Hopefully my son doesn't mind being my test subject tonight. So ... what's on your menu for tonight?

I am making meatloaf, green beans, and mashed potatoes for dinner tonight. I like to add some shredded carrots in the meatloaf so my kids get extra vitamins and all. My son runs when he sees a veggie, but he loves meatloaf so he gets his veggies. :)

Meatloaf has to be one of my very favorite meals. My mom use to make it so good, a little burnt on the bottom and so very delicious. Sadly, my husband and son do not really like meatloaf so I haven't had it in a very long time. After I have dinner at Laura's, I'm heading to your house! Make room! :]

Mmmm that sounds like my kind of healthy dinner. I love meals like this where you turn something that would otherwise be really unhealthy for you into a great tasting alternative that probably tastes better than the real deal. Thanks so much for sharing!

Can I come to your house for dinner!? If there is one thing I can not cook, it's steak. I'm just not good at it so the next time you're making Filet Mignons, call me. *lol*

My partner and I are on a very tight budget at the moment so I am making curried mince with rice. I have canned tomatoes and some onions and the remains of my jar of homemade curry powder so it won't take long to cook

I have never even heard of beef and broccoli, but it sounds good. Tonight we are cooking out on the grill. The menu consists of pork chops, au gratin potatoes and mixed veggies and dip. I think that we will be making homemade sundaes for dessert also:)

Your dinner sounds yummy! This is the perfect time of year to grill - except you're in New York, is it still cold there? Here in California it's been in the 70s and 80s already. Spring is here, that's for sure! I must ask, you've NEVER heard of Beef & Broccoli? It's a Chinese dish and it's delicious! My son could eat it every day if I let him. It's thin strips of beef (steak) fried in a light asian sauce along with broccoli. Then served over steamed rice. It's one of the most popular Chinese dishes here in the United States. I'm surprised you've never heard of it or tried it. You should.. and I know New York MUST have some chinese places there, right? :]

I ended up grilling in the rain, but it was still delicious! To be honest, regarding the beef and broccoli....I just last week had chinese for the first time! We have tons of chinese restaurants around here, but have just never tried any. I will definitely try the beef and broc next time. thanks for clearing that up for me.

My menu tonight (for two) is as follows: Oven roasted sausages and onions served on a sweet potato and soured cream mash. I had a pack of sweet potatoes in the fridge which needed to be dealt with so I decided to cook them all (750 grams) and mash them. I also wanted to try a recipe for sweet potato bread, so some of the mash went into that. I bought a pound of sausages because that seemed the best value. If you are not from the UK, you may not know our link sausages. They are made of pork with a good deal of rusk and herbs and flavorings (depending on the variety). I could grill them or fry them but I always prefer them cooked in the oven. I peeled, boiled and mashed the sweet potatoes, added salt, pepper, a little lemon juice and a tablespoon or so of soured cream and beat them well. When they have cooled a little, I will beat in an egg and put them in a dish with some grated cheese on top below the sausages to just cook through. The bread dough will be ready by then, and I shall use the already hot oven to bake that. I don't have a rice cooker but I always make rice as follows (not for tonight, though). I put plenty of water in a saucepan, season it with salt and sometimes four to six green cardamom pods. When it is boiling, I add the rice and bring back to the boil. After 10 minutes, I drain the rice into a colander, rinse briefly with cold water and set the colander back over the pan with boiling water in it and a lid over the rice. I allow it to steam for 10 minutes or more until I am ready to serve it. It is always al dente and the grains are separate.

Actually last night we ended up going out for Thai food because a friend/coworker of my boyfriend was visiting. He expensed everything. I had pan ang curry with tofu. Tonight is my boyfriend's nephew's birthday so we are going to Carmelita's, a Mexican restuarant. I will be showing up late because I have school tonight - but I also don't like the food at Carmelitas so I will show up and wish Markie happy birthday - but I'll probably go home and make a tomato and hummus sandwhich or some tofu nuggets.

I just got the new vegetarian times magazine today and think I'll try a couple of recipes from it. One is lentils with chickpeas and couscous. For dessert, I'm going to try no-bake chocolate tofu cheesecake.

Thanks for sharing! Your dessert sounds heavenly! I must admit, I do not like couscous at all. When my son was filming a TV showed called American Family the catering company cooked us all lunch and it was either fish or lemon chicken with couscous. I had never tried it before and I thought it would taste just like rice. I was so wrong. It had zero flavor and the texture just didn't sit right on my tongue. I know alot of people who love it - so it must just be me. I love chickpeas though! :]

LOVE BLT's!! Except I do not put tomatoes on mine and I substitute avocados instead. What do you put gravy on? Maybe your version of 'gravy' and mine are different but I've never heard of gravy on fries or BLTs. A roast sounds good too. Now I'm hungry again!
