Do people have an aversion to using referrals and clicking on ads?

Do you use referrals and click on website ads? I have used a referral for almost every site that I have signed up with unless I actually stumbled across the site myself. But I know people who never use referrals for some strange reason. I have no problem helping someone else out, it cost me nothing since I wanted to use the site anyways. I am also in the habit of clicking on ads on pages I visit, especially if the site looks new or not of a big corporation. What are everyone tendancies? Do you use referrals? Do you click on ads? I have two blogs I have recently started and haven't got much in the way of any ad clicks. http://www.blogchex.com/freefromdebt/ http://www.blogchex.com/buffalobills/ I put some google adsense ads on and while they can generate money I have not seen much. In fact on the first site I have had some traffic ( alot though from traffic generating sites) and it looks like one person clicked on a ad before they left. I think it's good etiquite to support others, especially if you enjoy the site. Maybe because the internet is fairly anonymous that people aren't willing to help out other people. What are other people's opinions? Any sites you would like me to check out?
