Do you immediately bring your child to a doctor when he/she is sick?

You cannot help sometimes that children get sick like fever, cough, flu etc. When I feel that my child has a fever I give her medicines, but If I feel that is more than that,I take my child to her pediatrician. It is better to have preventions than cure when someone is sick, especially children who can't tell yet everything that they feel when they are sick. How about you? Are you the panic type, who immediately call and bring your child when he is sick?

when my kids were small i took them to the doctor every time they got sick. once they learned to talk though it was different. i guess cause when they were little they couldnt say this hurts mommy. once they got older though i got to where if they were sick i would ask what hurts what feels like what etc and then if it was cold or flu etc i just give thm meds and rest etc and they get well. if it last for more then 3 days or the fever is really high then off to the doctor we go of course. i am lucky though my kids dont get sick often. in fact besides check ups and shots my kids havent had to go to the doctor in about 4 years.

No, I am not the panic type at all. I am used to my kids enough to know when they are sick enough to warrant going to the doctor, and when they just need a little chicken soup and bed rest. Nine times out of ten the doctor only tells you what is common sense, anyhow.

yup. my mom is just like you. and mostly, we get cured not because of the medicines but the touch we get from our mom. it's important for kids to know that they are being cared for.

My daughter very seldom gets sick. I do however, try to treat her at home first. She is very good with taking medication. Usually an over the counter medication will help her get better. My husband is the same way. He very seldom gets sick and when he does the over the counter medication helps him. I was also always with my child so I knew what was wrong most of the time. My daughter is sixteen now and other that the yearly check up I think she has been two or three times extra.

I'm not the panic type when it comes to children's sickness. As I have a little medical background, I try to observe first what made my daughter sick, what is she actually feeling and take note of all signs and symptoms. I can tell right away if it's just fever or something more serious. If I think it's plain fever, I let her drink paracetamol and I give her a sponge bath to lower down her temperature. I feel a trip to the doctor each and everytime can be quite expensive. Not that I'm being stingy, but I experienced it a lot of times when my kid was younger, that they prescribe the same medicine for a certain set of symptoms like in the case of fever. If the fever lasts for more than 3 days, that's when we go to the pediatrician. And oftentimes, they would recommend antibiotics. I'm glad that she seldom gets sick. I give her a very good multivitamin supplement and a Vitamin C and Zinc combination supplement as well, to boost her immune system. The most that she gets is allergic rhinitis, which we all have in the family. Other than that, she's a healthy 5 year old girl. :)

sometimes its good to bring them right away sometimes its not, when they have a fever or are throw up,chicken pox ect. But when they just have a headache i leave them for half a day and if they still have then we go to the doctor.

hello. i am not a mother yet. but my mom is not the panicky type of person. when we're sick, she knows atleast what to do. gives us care and first aides. usually it works quickly and we feel relieved after a few days. but at times, when she feels something weird, she brings us to the doctor at once. i understand your thoughts. atleast you have preventive measures. and you are doing what is just right for your kids! happly myLotting!

My son hardly gets sick and I'm very thankful for his fantastic health. He doesn't get fever even after his vaccinations, the only way he got fever for more than a day was when he caught a really bad case of cold & cough. The timing was perfect becauser we're on our way to our 4 day vacation to the beach, the sea's water is really warm great for him to swim and decongest his nose. When we still lived with my mom and my sister who have a daughter that is always sick with cough, my son often gets sick after two weeks and if his cough persists after two weeks we bring him to the doctor, we wouldn't want him to develop weak lungs just like the other relatives of my husband.

i try to give medicine first to my children if they are down with flu, cough or colds. if they have fever, my immediate response is to give the medicine for fever, called their pediatrician, then monitor their temperature. if after the medicine, their temperature is down then i will stop giving their medicine. but if the fever is still continues and the cough are recurrent, then that is the time that i will bring them to pediatrician to examine. i try not to panic when my children are sick because you cannot give them first aid if you start panicking and i make it sure that i always have medicine for fever and cough in the house in case they got sick.

I do not have a child yet but if I will have one and when my child gets sick, I will immediately bring my kid to the doctor. Doctor knows best especially when it comes to treating kids who doesn't know much of expressing pain.

No I don't. I give it a few days with over the counter medicines. Then if it doesn't seem to be getting any better I will take them to the doctor. But if it was left up to my husband they would be at the doctors every time they sneezed. LOL! No seriously when our daughter was an infant every time she sneezed his words were "She's getting sick, take her to the doctor". I think it has something to do with shes a daddys girl all the way.

When my children were younger I was constantly taking them to the doctor. My daughter would get alot of UTI's. My two sons constantly would get ear infections. It gets easier as they get older because they are able to tell you what is wrong.
