Pls. help. I was advised by an acquaintance that since my PC is a x64-bit built and I was supposed to changed my OS to Windows XP x64 to make it run faster, vulnerable to attacks, it would be a future in computing, etc. My problem now is after I installed the OS, I should look for softwares that are also 64-bit compatible. Where can I download such softwares/applications/drivers I needed for my PC? I

Whatever be the processing speed of your processor, until it matches with the data carraige of the os it wount give the maximum performance, like you have a 64 bit processor , but as you have a 32 bit OS only 32 bits will be processed per unit time thus wastage of 32 bits of the processor. But 64 bit software are not very ready in the market so i would suggest you to stick to the 32 bit for a few months more then switch to the 64 bit.

laltu86 but as you have a 32 bit OS He said in the start of the discussion that he installed the x64 version of XP! Therefore he has a 64 bit OS! I will agree with you that for now 32 bit is an ok choice. I have an Opteron CPU which is 64 bit and considered the x64 addition but decided against it.

You could have continued working using the 32 bit OS and 32 bit application software. But then, since you have already done the installation, you could look for softwares and drivers at http://www.download.com

When I built my system I seriously considered using the x64 addition of WinXP. I ended up choosing to wait however because after talking to some people who have actually run this addition of XP it seems that very little software actually works on it.
