i agree with tigerdragon. You have to manage your earnings to increase your profit & then manage your expenses. Have a monthly budget according to your income. From this monthly budget make a weekly budget, then stick with it. If you still have time, start a journal of your expenses everyday for 1 month just to know how much you alot for food, gas, movies, etc.. The moment you receive your salary/profit, alot 10% of it to your bank account/piggy bank then forget about it, meaning don't spend it. It doesn't matter if you save P50, P100 or P1,000 as long as it is consistent. The object is to make it a habit.

I wasn't born a shopper actually so that helps me on my part on saving my money. I seldom buy things for myself as long as I still have the old one good and still useful, except for hygiene and stuff like that. For you, I guess, learn to buy what you just need. Don't buy things because your friends has it. Try to have a fix amount for savings and don't think of it as your first back-up whenever you have problems. Dont depend on your savings all the time.

saving money is the same as earning money from yourself . treat it like you are paying yourself.everytime you have gotten a discount say 10% of $10, put that dollar into your savings deposit box or if you are suppose to spend on something and you have opted not to then treat it as if you have spend for it then save it again in your deposit box.always think how to save on something , it will go a long way.believe me, i have been learning the lesson the hard way now.

My psychologist friend once said, "if you saw something in the mall and it attracted your attention, walk away for 10 minutes. After that time, you go back and if you still like it, then buy it." He said that many times we buy something out of impulse. I tried to follow his wise counsel and it really works for me. I have another style though. I don't usually go and buy stuff the moment I thought of it. If there's anything that I wish to have I'd scout for it when I visit shopping malls. Then when I think I have found what I had been looking/wanting for, I would go and buy it. I'm not an impulsive buyer. Also before I go shopping for food or groceries, I list down first what is needed in the house and in the kitchen. It becomes very easy to get the things you need. Otherwise, you go to the shop and see things you think you need or like but when you get home you just put them aside.

this is what i do for managing my money. Get a financial record started with any sized notebook will do. Have another section to keep track of your required expenses for each month (i.e., gas, food). Write down the exact income you expect to have per month whether it be from your parents, financial aid or job. This will enable you to become a better consumer as well as keep track of your funds.
