Write or Highlight books?

When reading for school, business or pleasure do you highlight passages or write in the margins?? I remember back in the day books when books were so sacred that you didn't "mar the pages of your books." Do you ever go back and reread the passages or your notes? Pen? Pencil?

I hate highlighting in books, but I do underline or bracket, and sometimes add margin notes. I usually also dog ear the pages that I've marked. That makes it much easier to go back through the book and find what I'm looking for. I mostly use ink because it's easier to see when I'm flipping through pages, trying to find something specific. Marking books is such a habit that I have to catch myself when I'm reading a library book. That's why I often wind up buying books instead of just borrowing them from the library.

Oh I HATE people who do this to library books. I'm happy at least somebody out there is courteous enough to buy the books they do this to...

that's funny...I hate dog earring pages...even magazines. I find something to book mark - even lil' post it flags. And I use pencil - never pen.

I still have that mentality, I don't ever allow a marking in any of my books ever. I always read my old stuff whenever I get a chance, sometimes I wrote little notes to myself of the future knowing if I remembered something I'd find it funny or cool. So far, always right LOL.

so if you don't write/mark in books, how do you keep track of such tidbits or notes? in a notebook? post -it?

Notebooks The textbooks were always specific to one course, and if I need(ed) to learn something, I often find that copying it out by hand works best.

I write in books all the time. All that blank space just screams out for notes. And, I love buying used books with notes scribbled in the margins. It makes me feel like I've gotten an extra story. The notes are a mystery. I'm not big on highlighting because that's boring to me.
