Need Your Prayers--Help!

I'm trying to type this as calm as possible-ain't easy..Many of you who know me, know that I get SSI Disability benefits and am unable to work...I just got these lovely announcements that my SSI benefits are to be terminated and it's all tied to when I received a very very small policy of my mother's when she died..At that time I had also gotten a letter stating that my benefits were to be terminated because the policy money was over the allowable $2,000.00 a person can have as assests and still get SSI...so right away I filled out a zillion forms of a Request For Reconsideration. Now that policy money is long gone...it helped to get my computer system...so I'm not rolling in money here. All along I assumed my Request had been approved since I then continued to get my benefits...and now this..I only got this lovely announcement today along with another letter stating my Medicaid and Food Stamps are terminated too...Are they freaking nuts...I have exactly $4.60 in my checking account, I have only a credit of $0.59 for food stamps..and these jerks claim I'm not eligible for benefits...what is maddening is that I got these notices on a weekend when I have to sit tight until Monday and make a lot of phone calls..and it can take up to a month to be granted a hearing to be re-instated for benefits. So dear friends at MyLot...please send some prayers my way that all well turn out for me--and quick! I might not even be able to have use of my computer since I won't have money to pay for my Internet service-- I just want to scream!

Oh dear, this does seem ridiculous and it does seem like this type of news always comes on the weekend when you feel you can't do anything about it. I will certainly keep you in my prayers for comfort and that they will get the paperwork sorted out quick... Just in case though I don't know about your area but in ours there are a lot of churches and other organizations that help in emergancy situations. Our church has a food pantry that is open 4 times a week where people can get food - I've done it a couple times myself and it's not just for church members, anyone in the community.

I don't know how it is in your area but in Michigan we have a welfare service (has a fancy name I can't ever remember) but they will pay rent - here it has to be past due before they will and depends on the situation but I know people who they have done it for. This past winter I had a $395 utility bill (gas and electric) and they not only paid that but the next month also. You may check into that next week. They can't kick you out for being a couple weeks late so that may be an option.

OK My lotters heres your chance to be heroes. If we are as nice as we say we are then it's time to show it. I say we all send at least $1 to Pyewacket's account. I know $1 will not break you. And you will receive much more in return. With over 80,000 members here we should be able to keep her afloat until her SSI is reinstated. Pyewacket do you have a paypal account? If not get one now. iI am waiting to be the first to step up.

I am so sorry to hear that you are getting messed with this way! How frustrating that they didn't even send you anything saying that your request was denied. And how the heck is a one-time amount of $2000 supposed to be enough to mean someone can live without aid? I got a more than that recently (tax refund) and it disappeared so quickly between medical bills, other debt, and a small amount of actual fun stuff. I can't imagine how the government thinks that small amount could really mean you didn't need your SSI anymore! Grrr. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

That is insane... surely they should realize that by now that money would be gone! It's not like you inherited some kind of fortune! Hopefully it won't take long to get things straightened out, once you can prove to them there's no money in your bank account and all that stuff! In the meantime, are you going to be okay?

I am so sorry, that is terrible!! It seems like the system doesn't work for people that truely need the help, only the ones that know how to use and abuse it! I will keep you in my prayers that you will get a positive decision soon!!

You informed them of your mothers policy money? They will probably take your check till what they think is owed is paid back. It happened to my mom. My brother in law lost his for 6 months becuase he had a accident and he got insurance money from the accident and so they took his check for 6 months. SSI board are crazy people. My mom is only now drawing 168.00 a month not really enough to live on. I will pray for you because they can't do htat to a person it is just plain silly. I hope that you get your benefits back. I will also pray that you do not get sick in the time before you get it back. Medical bills pile up fast. Good luck and god bless~your in my prayers~becca

Oh, girl. I'll be praying for you something bad. I can't imagine how scary that has to be. I know a woman whose mother is having her benefits terminated because come to find out, her mother had a burial plot 20 years ago paid for, and they count that as income! It's crazy! That scared my parents, so they have set up something that if and when they die, I get my part of the inheritance, only it will only say that, they won't have it set up to go to me. It will go through my sister and she will distribute it in a way they cannot count it as income. I am sooo sorry this is happening. You have a lot of people praying for you.

I think you were a bit calmer than I would be right now. My husband had SSI for a long time, and it just about killed him! but, that is another long story. I am a bit confused though, because when my husband recieved a good deal of money when he was younger, 10,000 when he was 18, and on SSI, they merely subtracted 10,000 from his pay for years! he just recently finished paying it off. however, to keep money coming in, he had to go back to work.I encouraged him to do this despite his disability mainly because he didn't have much of a life, and SSI cares nothing for those who are on it.His was a happy story, yours is not right now. SSI wants to suck any and all enjoyment out of your life, and make you miserable. this is thanks to our current administration who want to do away with SSI, and instead tap into it as new war supply money. What I'd suggest, is make your appointments to Social Security, and where you got your food stamps. make your plea. may not work, but they will at least remember you in the future. next, you need to ask for assistance from a church. Different churches do different things, so you may want to try your networking skills to get through this rough patch until things get a bit better. I'd expect lines, because there are quite a few people who ask for assistance. Asking is never the easy part. I am sorry this has happened to you, Pyewacket. I will hope and pray that you can turn this situation into Lemonade, when you have been dealt such sour lemons.

Hang in there, get some advice from a SSI lawyer and see how you can get this settled fast. Heck people own houses and collect SSI what right do they have badgering you for a lousy 2 grand. I of course will be praying for you and hoping this all gets straightened out fast. You may even want to make an appointment at your local SSI office. Or you can try their website to see what your options are. Take care and don't let it get you...you can survive.

My prayers are going with you. It annoys me that people abuse the assistance money they get from the government, and then there are people who really need it but can't get it like yourself. Best of luck, I hope everything eventually turns out ok.

I am wishing you well and hoping things turn out for you and that you get re-instated. They can't leave you high and dry since you are disabled...what they heck are they thinking....that's crazy. I hope you can get some help till then...maybe try and get a loan...or go to other sources etc....

Oh sweetie! My heart, love, and prayers go out to you! That is horrible news to receive on a weekend and not be able to do anything until Monday!!! I am sure that if you include bank statements and at least go down to the Health Department about food stamps and loss of income, they should be able to help you with some aid for that month that it will take to get the SSI re-instated. But keep in mind, you will have to have a bank statement in hand to get help and normally have to wait hours for a walk-in time. That can be very trying on one's patience! Hang in there. Take a deep breath. And think positive. You will get through this!

Thanks ever tia! Bank statement..hehhe--yeah to show all my millions I have stored up..only have my checking account which is how I get my direct deposit of my SSI--I'm hoping I can do all this clearing up by phone...I don't even have the money to travel anywhere like the Health Dept etc etc..I was able to get the food stamp thing just by filling forms to them and mailed...otherwise it's a 25 subway stop to get there and I haven't traveled on Public transportation in years..I suffered my worst panic attack while traveling on the train..no car to drive--uh, never learned anyway...When my mom and I were going through the court case about the eviction last year the Legal services of the Elderly provided cab service otherwise there would have been no way either of us could've gone--my mom was in bad medical shape, and me with my problem--even the SSA office it a distance from me...like I said I'm hoping I can straightened this all out on the phone

Do you have the services of a legal aid system available to you in your state? I know that they sometimes can really be of assistance without any payment required of you in these situations. I feel very bad for you as I know it's bad enough to learn of these things during the week when you have access to the people you need to speak with, let alone having it happen on a weekend. Best of luck and I'll be praying for you!
