I am so exhausted all the time. I just can't seem to get enough sleep. I have no trouble falling asleep, the problem is that I wake up way too early. I think I'd need to sleep 8-10 hours to be at my best. Unfortunately my body doesn't seem to want to stay asleep for more than 5-6 hours. I try taking naps during the day but it doesn't help me feel more rested. Does anyone have any ideas for how to stay asleep longer besides taking sleeping pills?

A cup of warm milk, or a banana, or a piece of turkey. All these things will help you sleep. A cup of milk when heated releases a something that has the same effect as tryptophan. Bananas do have tryptophan as does turkey. I just read in Reader's Digest that a steak dinner also helps people to fall asleep when they go to bed. I hope this works! I know the warm milk and the bananas do work for me.

Well I don't drink milk. To me milk is more of a condiment than a drink. I pour it on stuff and I dip stuff in it, but I don't drink it. LOL I do eat bananas and turkey frequently and I've never noticed any sedating effect from eating them. Maybe I'm immune to tryptophan.

Well I hesitated to mention this herb because some places have taken it off their shelves. Celestial Seasonings, the natural herbal tea company used to put Kava Kava in their Tension Tamer tea. It really worked well for me and put me right to sleep if I drank it an hour before bedtime. They no longer put Kava Kava in their tea because someone found out that it could be harmful for you if you take too much. I doubt that the amount that Celestial Seasonings put in their tea was that bad but they removed it. I still drink Tension Tamer tea because it relaxes me. I drink it in the morning before I go to work and I am mellow all day. Not sleepy but mellow.

I would advise to stop taking naps in the afternoon as this impedes your sleep during the night I also have sleep issues, but i take a natural herbal suppliment that helps, its called melatonin (which your body produces naturally) also in regards to sleeping pills, there are some that you don't get addicted to...you might visit your dr...

Funny, I actually used to take melatonin back when I had trouble falling asleep, it really didn't help at all. I really do try not to take naps, but a lot of the time it gets to the point where I simply cannot keep my eyes open any longer.

May be you can try eating heavy and filling up your tummy before going to sleep. it may just work. I never tried it though, LOL.
