Hello mylot users what's the difference between a father and a dad? this question is posted because I see some people define father somewhat shallow and emphasize more of being a dad.

I suspect for most people the terms are interchangeable, but in this day and age many children have a biological father who may not be the 'dad' who is around the house, living with their mother, and who they spend the most quality time with. If they want to differentiate between the too thats fine I think.

Indeed you are right when you said that, this days the word father has lost it real deep sense of meaning and been replaced by the subjective word "dad". People nowadays reduces the word "father" into an objective word. But IMHO, father connotes a lot of meaning including the word "dad" not just a sperm donor nor a biological one.

The difference anyone can father a child. It takes a real man to be a dad. To be there through it all. A father is just a name. NOthing more

This is what I have always said "Any boy can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a dad." (This goes for moms too) A dad loves his children play with them make them fell better then they are hurt or sick. A dad will stand by his child/ren now matter what.

A father donates sperm to the mother to help make a baby. A Dad loves that child. He helps to raise the child. He changes diapers, gets up in the middle of the night to feed the baby. He takes the child fishing,he coaches their ball team. He puts a band-aid on skinned knees. Any male can be a sperm donor,It takes a real man to be a Dad.

The word generally mean the same thing, but I feel that the word father has a greater meaning then dad dose. someone who greatly loves their father would use father instead of dad and someone who rarly see their father or has no real relationship with them might use dad and father is more respectful than dad is.
