Have You Ever Considered How Dirty Shopping Cart Handles Are?

For quite some time now I have carried antiseptic wipes with me when I go to the grocery store. I'll tell you why. As we were shopping several years ago I noticed a mother pushing her two children in a shopping cart. Both children were as cute as they could be. One child was half standing and half seated inside the cart and the other was sitting in the child's seat. Both children were quite evidently sick. They both coughed and sneezed the whole time I watched them. Poor babies. The one child who was sitting in the child's seat sneezed and the green slobbery mess dripped from his little nose all over the handle of the cart. The other child followed suit and sneezed as big. As the mom was wiping the nose of the first child, the second one stood up behind the other one reaching for her mom to give her a tissue. Then the poor baby threw up all over the other one and the cart too. The poor mother retrieved both children from the shopping cart and left the store leaving the mess all over the cart. I wondered at that instant, "How clean is the cart I'm using?" Since then, I carry my antiseptic wipes with me and wipe down the handle of the shopping cart before I use it. When I get home I immediately wash my hands. Have you ever wondered how many germs are on shopping carts? Or are you like I was, unwise to the danger?

Well, I've often wondered who has had the trolley before me, and now, after your story, I'll be wondering even more, and what else has hapenned in that trolley. I have noticed my hands get a funny smell after using one, and usually have to wash them pretty soon after. I've never got sick after being shopping, although now I can't be sure. Germs would take some time to get into your system and make you ill. Maybe the wipes aren't such a bad idea.

Better safe than sorry muscare. We have to do what we can to keep ourselves as healthy as we can. Sure can't depend on medicine or doctors to do it for us.

Never considered. Good post. I always wash my hands when I go home. Because all day we touch a lot of things touched by others. But I never considered the shopping cart :O
