all this maintenance business is confusing. I bought a 12 foot pool, filled it and let the kids get in, hot happy days! However only a week later my water is greeen. We have been putting the cover on at night, but nothing else. I have now bought a starter pack of chemicals, includind cholrine, shock algeside and tester strips, but where do you start, the instructions are rubbish. Would appreciate advise on what to do, then an idea how to maintain once water is clean. Took 5.5 hours to fill, dont fancy emptying and re filling !

hi there, I have a 10 foot pool which also took ages to fill, and the only chemicals I have added are the sterilising tablets you get for air conditioning units, they work a treat. Make sure that you have your filter on for at least an hour a day, that green slime should soon move !!

The water is green because algae is growing in it. You should go to a pool supply store and ask them what chemicals and what amounts you should put in your pool based on it's size.

FYI - if you live in the US, fire departments in some areas will come fill your pool for you using their equippment. So if you have to drain your pool again, maybe they can help you out.

I would start with the testing and find out what the results are. After that it should be able to help you with the proper amount of chemicals and cholrine. I also would suggest if you dont have one a filter pump to use once a day to get out all the things that should not be in the water to filter that way you will not have to fill and refill the pool. Good luck
