When is the best time to tell your boss your not coming back to work after the baby arrives? should you tell him before the leave starts or near the end of the leave so insurance is still in effect?

Here in Canada, you have to tell them at the end of your maternity leave or else you are not qualified to get any money.

I think by law you only have to give two weeks notice. You might want to check the insurance policy to make sure it will stay in effect. But if it does, I would give him the time to find a new employee.

I think I would tell them just as the maternity leave ended, unless your going back to work is the only way you can get the maternity leave. Be sure to check your policy. You might not qualify for the leave if you don't return to work!

I didn't tell my boss until I had to when my maternity leave was coming to an end. I think it is better to be sure that you get all your entitled payments before you potentially ruin it for yourself. I think that you don't owe anything to your boss (that was certainly true in my case) and they have no right to demand you to tell them earlier.

wait to tell him. Tell him that you just can't leave the baby with just anyone and don't think its the right time for you to return to work. Something changed? Didn't think you knew you could just yet?
