Are wedding receptions getting out of control?

What has happened to the cake and punch wedding reception? I'm amazed at the amount of money people are spending on wedding receptions these days. It seems every wedding I've been to is trying to outdo the last one. I mean full sit down meals, dj's and bands. When I think of how the newlyweds could use the money spent on the wedding, I don't understand why so much money is spent on this. Am I the only one thinking this has gotten way out of control? I'm not even sure my gift to the couple covers the cost of my meal.

This is a day that most woman dream of their whole lives and is the one day that you get to be the star or the cinderalla of the day . It is a day to remember and a lot of people are really unconcerned about the cost as they want this to be a day where everything will be just perfect . It is the only day you have to have your dreams come true and is the day you show the world you love for the person you picked . Although some of these weddings are very extravagant , it is probably the only time in one's life they will have to be able to feel that everything is really about them and everyone deserves this very special day . I don't believe that most couples worry about the cost of the gifts , they just want to have a day they will remember for the rest of their lives and have a story that they can enjoy telling for years to their grandchildren . It is the one day that one can be a star and feel important and happy . It is a day that everyone should take the time to remember that this is so much about the bride as she has probably dreamed of this day her whole life and everyone should take the time to do what they can to make her specail day come true as we have so few days in our life that we get to call our own .

It seems to me these people think "money is no object" but to me, I can see so many other things that that money can be spent on. Things that the couple could use in their new home or to put in savings. I think so many people are concentrating on the wrong meaning of the marriage.
