Being Treated Unfairly at Work!

Have you ever heard of the term "office clique"? It means you are working in a small office and you are not on your boss's favorite people list, or a popular employee in your department. Those that are on the boss's VIP list and popular form a group and they are the "in-crowd/popular" employees in the department. Well, I am not in the in-crowd because I do not suck up to people to get them to like me. I go to work everyday, work hard, leave and go home. However, I have received unfair reviews and as a consequent small raises that are a joke. The "clique" gets away with doing nothing at all and/or very little. They get the best reviews and higher raises. I know this for a fact because two of the popular employees have showed me their review and checkstubs! I have been at this job for three years and still being treating unfairly. The work is ok. I work four days out of a week and off the other three (Thu, Fri, and Sun). I love the way my work schedule is setup because it allows me to spend time with my family and take care of personal business during the week. I'm thinking about quitting and finding another job, or tell my boss how I feel which I don't thing it's going to change anything. What would you do?

Yeah, there are times when we feel that work is not treating us good. Plus maybe you're really in a bad company, and you need to get out. About telling your boss, that's a big no no, why? Because as you say, those employees are the boss' favorite, so why would he listen to you? I say, if you want your job, just keep quiet, if you don't get out. By the way, if you're stressed, go read this story, enjoy: When you have an "I hate my job" day, try this: On your way home from work, stop at the pharmacy, go to the thermometers section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by "Best Thermo". Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the drapes, and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed during your therapy. Change to very comfortable clothing, such as a sweat suit and lie down on your bed. Open the package and remove the thermometer. Carefully place it on the bedside table so that it will not become chipped or broken. Take out the material that comes with the thermometer and read it. You will notice that in small print there is a statement: "Every rectal thermometer made by Best Thermo is personally tested." Now close your eyes and repeat out loud five times: "I am so glad I do not work for quality control at the Best Thermo Company." =)

i experience exactly the same situation as you have right now! i also don't know how to tell my boss coz it could only make her dislike me. i'm also planning to resign but i'm worried if i could easily find a job because of the financial crisis.. maybe we should stay from our job and just do our best. we should become more comtetitive.

I hate the office clique. I am on disablity now but there sure was alot of that going on in my office. Only thing is I worked for an union shop so everyone got the same pay raise but there where definetly other situations that where unfair. I think in your situation I would talk to the boss first to find out what is going on. Like you said you have a great work schedule and it would be sad to lose that. You have nothing to lose by talking to him.

well, look well and good before you make such a move. I was in the exact same position as you were two years ago. I took a leap of faith and joined another company only to be played out by them. My greatest regret... cos my old job gave me a certain freedom that my current job does not allow. Not that I am grumbling about my current job. Different job scope, different culture ;) Took a while before I landed myself in another stable job. Now, I am happy to have a job. Right now things are moving along at a comfortable pace for you. Take your time to hunt for a job. Be very sure that the boss you are going to work for is good. Also be prepared to work very hard again for the initial part of the new job. But dun rush into making a decision to switch cos you are not happy with your increments. In a nutshell, dun walk down my path and live to regret it!

I would talk to the boss, but also pray. That is a very up lifting thing. Also maybe try working on social skills. You sound like a GREAT person. =] So maybe start joining in the activities. When they are a part of the problem, you can become the SOLUTION! Best wishes and blessings.
