In this world of ever increasing commercialism, is it still possible to find true peace or do you feel encouraged to play a full part in the consumerist society?

Impossible to find a really safe and peaceful place in the world though you may say that some countries or regions where there is no war, no famine, no disaster...but these are just temporary things. War, famines and disaster ..would occur any where and any time before we knowing it.

Yes, I think so. It is our challenge. A Zen saying: When you can practice your zazen (meditation) in the busy market-place, you have then truly mastered it. I am not anti-consumerism as I feel that it indeed can be fun. I think the answer lies in integrating consumerism with spiritual growth, which is something the Japanese seem to be doing very well. They use mindfulness (Zen influence) in their work and see work as opportunity to share gifts with everyone else. OK, it's not perfect, but if everything were perfect, life would be boring. They talk about the "middle path".
