My son's not going because he's just a toddler, but our local magazine is basically a bunch of ads for summer camp. Are your children going to a camp this summer? Is it an overnight camp or day camp? What activities do they have? Did you go to summer camp when you were a kid and what kind of camp was it? I went to a week long church camp, I looked forward to it every year, I'd get to reunite with lots of friends way out in the wilderness. They had really good food, a swimming pool, crafts, singing, bonfires, we were constantly busy. I remember my parents getting excited about it too, especially when my sister and I were teenagers lol.

I always went to camp. I went from the time i was in third grade, up until I was 21 (as a counselor). The only reason I quit going as a counselor then was because I got married and moved 1000 miles away. When I was a sophomore, junior, and senior in high school, I went as a camper to a church youth camp, and then as a counselor to our elementary aged church camp. It was usually a lot of fun. The first year I was a counselor it wasn't so great. I had 8 kids that ranged in age from 6 (she was only allowed to be there because her dad was a boy's counselor) all the way up to 12. It was hard to keep everyone entertained since they were at such different ages. Plus I didn't even have a junior counselor or anything! The next year, I had more kids (10) and still no junior counselor, but my kids were all 8-10 years old so they were much easier to deal with. The year before I was a senior, I had a junior counselor and 9 girls that were 8-9 years old and it was awesome. The years after high school were fun, too. When my son gets older, if he wants to go to camp, we will definitely let him. We will probably start him out with a day camp when he's younger, and then let him go to an overnight camp when he gets bigger, if he wants to. I never went to daycamp, but my sister couldn't stand overnight, so I guess everyone is different.

Most of that sounded fun! I wouldn't be able to be a counselor, I wouldn't be able to entertain that many kids lol, the hubby is getting snipped after I pop out a few more ;)

I never went t summer camp, but always wanted to go. I think I never attended because there wasn't anything available in my area and if there was, my parent's didn't let me go because they were paranoid something 'bad' would happen to me. I resented it for a long time. :o( Oh, well that's how it goes. And i'll probably feel like them, but we'll see if my lo will attend.

I unfortunately never got to experience going to camp when I was a child or a teenager. My mom couldn't afford to send me even though she would have liked to. I have been thinking about letting my oldest go to a week long camp for basketball that they are holding close by, but I really don't know if he is old enough yet. He is only 7. I really don't know if I would feel comfortable with him being gone from home with virtual strangers for that long yet. I know, I sound like an over protective parent, but I can't seem to help it when it comes to letting my kids go away when they are still so young. :)

We did fundraisers as kids to raise money, my parents were broke! I'd feel the same way, I don't even want to think about my son starting school! I think when the time comes, I'd put him in day camp so he'd be home in the evenings until I could get used to him not being around lol.

You made a good suggestion that I had never thought of before..Day camp! I will have to maybe look into some camps around here and see if they have any available. Thanks.

My daughter is 9 she will be going to church camp this summer. It is for 5 days. I'm looking forward to the break as much as she is to camp. They have swimming, crafts and sports. When she is older she wants to do canoe camp,5 days on the water and camping every night.
