Should there be a licence to have children??

There are marriage licences, which to be make no sense - if two people want to be together they will be no matter what and if they don't a piece of paper is not going to keep them together.
However, once you have a child is a life long responsability, which (for a responsible parent) cannot be simply switched off. There are many people today who have a child just because - I have met some women who wanted to have a child even when they knew that the father would not want it...I found that selfish.
There are many people who haave children even though they are ill and pass on serious diseases to their children thus, making their child life a nightmare right from the start.
Should there be a license to have children in order to make parents more responsible?? What is your opinion?

certainly i think there should be a training programme, a test and then a licence but how would it be policed and implemented? Makes an interesting idea

Yes...make people more aware of what a responsability children are ...before they them not after!

I do not think that this is acceptable...not practical....how would you go about preventing pregnancies that were not licensed??? Who would decide the one who could or could not have a child????
I understand what you are saying....it is apparent that some of the people who have children should not....we see it almost every day it seems...the terrible things that some "parents" have caused their children to endure.....makes me sick too, my friend.
While the theory may sound good...I just do not see it as being feasible!

How sweet - I like your reaction. Yes, a licence or law like this will never work and I probably would be against it...
However, my idea was that is some way there should be a LOT MORE awarness then what we have today about the responsabilities of having a child. There are teenagers who get pregnant and have to give up their children or have abortions which can scar them for life not to mention that they may not be able to have a child again. There are also the many selfish people who have children because that is what they feel like at that particular time in life without worrying what they can offer the child or ensure that they are at least a family.
I really feel that some children are from the start hurt by not having both parents or being born with terminal diseases simply because the parents were careless. The world is over populated, children die everyday of hunger...can we really not do anything about that???

That is the most crazy thing I have heard today. What makes you think by making people have a license to be a parent will work? It doesn't even make sense. I thank it's just very odd. I'm not to worried about it, I doubt it will ever happen. I'm almost sure of it.

I did not say that such a thing will happen - I said that if people will to get a licence to have children would make them realise what a huge resposability they are and may be, just may be, there will be less children born with terminal diseases or other disabilities that were genetically transfered ...this of course are just my thoughts, like you said - I doubt something like this will ever take place.
