Talking to Yourself or Not?

United States

I was informed yesterday that I was "losing it" and I am aware of what that insinuates. I was caught making a comment to what someone said on the TV all I did was, rather rudely, respond. I was informed I was talking to myself...I dont think so. I was talking to a person on the TV not myself. Do you think the is a sign of losing your marbles??

I do not see any harm in that. I do it sometime when I am watching a good movie. I think everyone does that, I like comedy, I will laugh and say things, I like Mad T.V and Saturday night live.

Of course not - I do this all the time! In fact I hold conversations with myself and even argue with myself aloud - at least I know I'll win the argument! I'm still totally sane though lol ! xxx

You're lucky that you always win the arguments you have with yourself - I sometimes lose mine. - And I'm totally sane as well.

I don't think so. I talking to TV too sometimes..LOL. Especially if you saw some tv programme, that did not like what you expect it to be, you will be talking to television, without you even notice it. Of course, you not talking to that box, but the person inside of it. Don't worry, we all do that sometimes.

no not at all, like my grandmother said it is okay to talk to your self, it's when you start to answer youself and carry on full convo with youself that you have to worry

No, it is a sign of having some brains, some opinions. I can imagine often talking to whoever happens to be on TV. You were talking to the tv, not yourself, and just because they could not hear you,does not make your comments any less valid.

I thought everyone talked to the tv. I spend some time talking to myself as well - sometimes its the only intelligent conversation that I have. Even occasionally have an arguement with myself, I only get worried when I lose the arguement, so I don't think you or your marbles have anything to worry about.

If that were the case, than I would really be losing my marbles.lol. I talk to the TV almost every time I watch something on it. Mostly comments like "I wouldn't do that if I were you." "Don't go in there you numb skull." And other such comments. People get a laugh when I do such things like that, but none have made the comment yet that I am losing any form of sanity.

LOL. I sometimes do this. And yes, I'm also making rude comments to the TV. Sometimes, when I'm really irritated at the characters, I even shout something like, "stupid!" Or in soap operas and there's this lady flirting around with the husband, I always say under my breath, "oh, you sl*t!". LOL. I guess we always get carried away with the shows we love watching.

Oh man, if that is a sign of losing your marbles, then I need to incorporate myself because I am making a lot of marbles, and not getting any benefits. I seriously doubt that the odd comment here and there to or at something is not an accurate indication of your degree of sanity. Besides someone once said that talking to yourself is the only way to have an intelligent conversation....:}

Good Heavens, no. It is natural for many people to say their hoghts out aloud, whether it's in response to the TV or a radip program, etc. I don't talk to myself, but my step daughter does. I do talk to all my animals though, a lot!

I think, from a purely technical standpoint, you are not talking to yourself because your verbal response is to an outside stimulus. You would have to be responding to something from inside your head to be tlking to yourself. You were only talking to something that can't hear you or respond. People do that all the time. Why would anyone call that a symptom of losing it?;)

yeah..I often do that just like you say.when I am happy without any friends nearby,I will talk to myself excitely.Or when I feel sad,I need to talk to myself,too. and so on.I think it is normal for the person to do in this way.
