Would you report this?

Suppose that you are a security of a grocery store. One day as you were roving the aisles you saw a hungry (beggar) kid trying to shoplift a piece of bread. Would you report this to the management (or whoever is incharge)? For my part I think I don't have the heart to do so (O well that's perhaps why I am not a security). I would instead pay for that piece of bread and perhaps bring the kid to a parish priest where the kid will be taken care of. How about you?

You are so kind to do like this. I agree with you to pay the bread by myself in such case. It is noproblem when what he want to get is a piece of bread, but if it is something else, it comes to another topic.

hm... that's a dillema for me. maybe i just ignore the kid, let the kid do what he must to do, and if he get caught, i will not help him too, coz shoplifting is wrong. in my country, if i pay for the bread, his many many friends will come and ask me to buy them some too. it's not that i'm stingy, but the situation is a bit scary. so i think i'll just make donation to some foundations that work for this homeless little kid.

I do understand. Sometimes there is a border to being kind and to tolerating. Thank you for the response.

I'll report to management. Then the kid will know its a wrong thing to do. Also authorities will be notified and arrangements can be made to have the kid placed in foster care or something. I don't think paying for the bread will do very much. He gets fed at that time, but what about after that meal? Also its not good to have it too easy. He'll just end up always taking something from stores because he knows someone is always there to pay for the goods. How long can this routine last till he stops getting charity and has to start stealing?
