Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the conditions that can make gaining weight a problem. The reason is that such people are so physically active that they burn up energy at an alarming rate. People with ADHD should snack between meals, especially in the late afternoon when they often go into a total dip because their blood sugar levels are rock bottom. Too much of a good thing can be bad! Exercise is no doubt a healthy activity but even exercise should be done in balance. If you are a compulsive exerciser then you need to slow down a bit. Take a day's break in between bouts of exercise and start eating more healthy foods. Nothing in excess is good for you, not even exercise.

There are a variety of clinical conditions which can cause poor absorption of food. People suffering from coeliac disease, cystic fibrosis or steatorrhoea (inability to absorb fats from the gastrointestinal tract), are often underweight and have difficulty gaining weight. Such people need to be treated by a medical doctor who will prescribe the required medications, such as enzymes, to aid digestion. Because of the complexity of such absorption illnesses, it is always a good idea to consult a clinical dietician who will help you by working out a balanced diet which compensates for the absorption problems.

Like obesity, being underweight is also unhealthy. While there are many people who strive to lose excess weight; there is another smaller segment of people who suffer from the exact opposite problem. As impossible as it may sound, yes, there are those who could do with a few extra kilos. Being underweight is as serious a problem as obesity or being over weight. However, while there is a vast inflow of information regarding losing weight, there are very few reliable sources that can guide one as to how to gain weight. There can be many reasons why some individuals are very thin and struggle to gain weight. The following are some of the possible causes: Very rapid metabolic turnover Very high stress levels Hyperactivity Excessive exercise Eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia Hyperthyroidism Depression Wasting illnesses Inadequate dietary intake – eating too little Unbalanced eating patterns – eating too much of only a few foods

Make a shake of Carnation Instant breakfast, whole milk and a big spoon of ice cream. When I was pregnant with my son, I had cancer and I was losing weight because my nerves were shot and I couldn't eat. My doctor had me drinking this drink everyday even if I did manage to eat something. It helped.
