Gum Found In McDonald's Burger

Canada
May 9, 2007 11:15pm CST
I've just finished reading an article on my homepage about a Vancouver man who found a wad of chewing gum in his 'Big Extra.' He spit the mouthful out after tasting peppermint, and discovered the gum. He immediately went to the hospital, to be checked for hepatitis, and he believes the gum was 'put' in the burger on purpose. What do you think? Has anything like this ever happened to you? Would you eat at McDonald's again, and what action would you take?

I would have taken it right to the trading standards office , My youngest son loves McDonalds and he would life off the big macs if he could , Now and again I have a mcfluury ice cream but I wouldn't eat a shop bought burger if you paid me too , I will be showing him this discussion tomorrow , Yuck !! I feel sick just reading about it , If I had eaten them in the past I certainly would be eating another one , that is just really disgusting xx

I do eat fast food burgers occasionally, but not at McDonald's. There are some other things I like from there though, like breakfast, Filet of Fish, and desserts. It does really make a person's stomach churn. Thanks for your response.

i would never of thought to go to the hospital, he did the right thing. i would of talked to the people there and i would of given them a piece of my mind. you hear of people sewing these places for doing things like that but i'm not sure i'd go that far, unless if i caught something from it.

I agree that the thing to do was to go to the hospital. Hopefully, everything was okay with him, but it's important to take precautions. The 'very' least McDonald's should do (I think) is to give him a year's worth of free food at McDonald's. That is, if he still wants to eat there after this. Thanks for your response.

This is absolutely shocking and disgusting!! I am so glad that I live in Ontario and there is no chance of me ever going to that McDonalds!! It certainly makes you think twice about eatting at one of those restaurants, not that I'm a huge fan of McDonalds but my son likes it...However, there are other fast food places.

I agree with you heavenschild. As far as I know, McDonald's burgers are pre-formed, so there's no chance the gum could've accidentally fallen from the employees mouth into the meat they were making into burgers. Please correct me if I'm wrong (anyone) if the burgers 'aren't pre-formed. I like McDonald's breakfast, also the McChicken, but never eat the burgers, for personal reasons. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your response yamahagirl. It's sad when things like this happen at an establishment as 'huge' as McDonald's. I can't stand hair in food either, and it has happened to me before, but it wasn't at McDonald's. Welcome to myLot.:)
