It can be a variety of things which determine what makes one person succeed and another fail. It does all depend on what you consider as success and what as a failure. If we assume that there are 2 people here, then both of them might actually work very hard. However, for one it might be that he is in the right place at the right time to take advantage of things that are ready. The other might not be so fortunate in this regard, through no fault of his own. It is called opportunity or luck, that is if they are both working equally hard and to the best of their ability. Also one man might consider that being a success, or succeeding, means a happy home life, good friends and enough money to get by. However, some other person might consider a mark of success is to have a big house, a new car, boat, holidays every year and a lot of money. So, it depends on what the perception of success and failure is that will determine the answer.

i guess simply because the other did not work just as hard as the one who succeeded.

it is sad but true - but think about it - someone has to come in last place.without a last place there would be no first place. eh?

I understood what you meant - but now that you tell about two different situations about how one works harder than the other- well that is just how life is sometimes- this other person who lacks on working hard may indeed get promoted or treated better - but what are the circumstances I would ask.Do they know the manager? Are they a good talker - in the business world getting ahead is all about how well one comes across in a setting - what I mean is- perhaps they come across as a much harder worker than the person who really is working hard - its all an illusion in the business world trust me. Some people are just better at it than others - with my work place thereisa person here who is now president and she is the dumbest and has no clue what is goin on but again she was good at talking and rubbing elbows with the right people - other people had no chance of getting that job cause they were buried in their work. that is why one loses and another wins. but if you ask me - those who work hard are the winner in my book - who wants to be a president and not know a damn thing eh?
