I dont justify racial discrimination but i think ppl are making more than enough fuss abt this racial thing...Now we cant even comment on someone's complexion, where's the freedom of speech then??

I had a professor this year who is from Germany, and I noticed he always used the term black to identify people. It was a bit shocking at first because we are so conditioned to only say 'African American' in this country. But, soon I decided it's probably all right, because it's just describing what someone looks like, like describing someone as being blonde when they have blonde hair. People are so worried about offending everyone else in the United States, when it's probably more offensive to act like you're paranoid all the time.

I'll speak on it from this point of view, being half-Filipino and half-African American. I personally have no problem with anyone calling me black, or anyone using the term to describe someone. Now, there's a difference between using it to describe, however, and using it to define someone. I think that's where people get offended. Like I said, me personally, I don't care who calls me black, it's who I am anyways. But I think that people are too sensitive when it comes to racial divides. I think being that sensitive will desensitize others to the real issues or racism and discrimination. If someone uses black to describe you and you don't like it, explain to them why, but don't get huffy about it. I think it's picking our battles that's the problem. We have to honor the freedom of speech, for sure. Now, that doesn't mean you have to buy into it. Or even give them the attention. I was always taught that others' ignorance is just that. I dunno, this is a very big issue for me with my upbringing, but I actually feel as though the term 'black' isn't that offensive to me. It might be for others, and I can understand it, but I don't feel that way.

i too agree with you just saying the colour shouldn't bother anyone. its like not acknowledging the fact. ITs here is usa other countries doesn't have any problem. I personnaly feel that being black have its own importance by not acknowldeging it i feel belittled. i think the atttitude should go like yes i am black and i am happy.
