Here's info about Jacob on Lostpedia: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Jacob Check it out, they have the shot of Jacob from the last night's episode. Here's my theory on what Jacob is. Jacob may be the the first person on the island. He brought the hostiles(Others) to the island/s. Ben said that Jacob didn't like technology which explains why the hostiles continually attacked The Dharma Initiative which was performing experiments on the island. The trail of black dirt/soot I think is a boundary, much like the sonic barrier producing pylons surrounding the others/Dharma's camp. I think this dirt either is preventing "something" from getting in....like the smoke monster, or is preventing "something" from getting out....like Jacob. Or may merely be a marker letting people know that when they cross the line they are in danger. Jacob told Locke, "Help Me" which leads me to believe that Jacob is in trouble, and possibly a captive of Ben. Ben was very upset that Locke heard Jacob tell him something and not Ben, which means that maybe Ben is no longer special. Maybe until now, Ben was the only person capable of communicating with Jacob, but now that Locke can, Ben could be replaced as spokesperson/leader of the others.

I agree that Ben has figured out that Locke is infinitely more special than he is, even though he was chosen in his childhood by whatever force is on the island. I was wondering if maybe Ben has never heard Jacob? MAybe he only sees him, but hasn't been able to communicate with Jacob as clearly as Locke might be able to?

I think the reason why Ben became the leader was because he could hear/see Jacob and therefore became the spokesperson of Jacob. Now that someone else can hear Jacob (Locke), Ben knows he can be replaced. I'm eager to see how this plot line develops.

That seems like a good analysis. I thought Jacob might be the stranger Ben came across in the forest when he was young. Or maybe the instructor in the Dharma reels.

Well, the guy Ben encountered in the woods when he was young was Richard, who we've seen in a few episodes now. Jacob could be the guy in the Dharma reels, but from what I could tell of his profile of his image I wouldn't think so. I hope this part of the storyline progresses before the finale. Regards.

I was surprised that they shot locke but i think the main reason he did was was that ben in jealous of him :)

I agree. I think Ben is worried and fears what Locke is capable of.

I like your theories :) the ring of soot/dirt reminded me of stuff from Supernatural, so I thought that maybe jacob is some kind of spirit that Ben is keeping enclosed within the circle. Perhaps as you say Jacob was the first person on the island, and maybe Ben killed him but knew some way to trap the spirit? (this is getting farfetched lol) And now Jacob is under Ben's control which is why Locke heard him say 'help me'. Ben could have some kind of power of Jacob that enables him to cure cancer or the like, and now that Locke can also hear or see him, Ben is confused and jealous that he is not as special (which we already saw in the previous episode when Richard approached Locke with the idea to get Sawyer to kill John's father). I'm glad we saw some of how the Dharma Initiative came to be on the island though :) At least we are getting some kind of answers.

Thanks for the link. There was some information I'd forgotten, especially the part about Jacob healing Juliette's sister. I don't think Jacob is a prisoner of Ben's. Ben was so nervous and upset about going to see Jacob, I don't think he was faking that. I think Ben is jealous Jacob spoke to Locke and he didn't hear what he said. You have some good and interesting theories. It'll be interesting to see how the show plays out?

Sure, no problem. Glad you found the site useful. Well, we don't actually know whether or not Jacob healed Juliette's sister. We do know that's what Ben said he would do if she stayed on the island, and he showed Juliette some tests that the sister's cancer had come back. I think the sister was ok the entire time. I believe that Ben lied about the sister's cancer coming back to keep Juliette on the island. I agree that I think Ben is jealous of Locke. I'm not sure Jacob is a captive of Ben, but Jacob did ask for help, so something isn't quite right.

Thanks for the link, that's a pretty cool site. I don't think that Jacob is a captive of Ben otherwise he wouldn't be afraid of him and he wouldn't get beaten up by him. I'm fairly confident that Ben is not making it up. I'm so glad that Locke got shot at the end I am so sick of his character!

Yeah, Lostpedia is really good at combining info from previous episodes. I often forget little bits and pieces, and Lostpedia offers a good refresher. Jacob may not be a captive of Ben, but there is definitely something wrong, otherwise, why would Jacob be asking for Locke's help? I'm interested in finding out why. I like Locke's character, I was surprised he got shot, but I'm betting he'll be ok.

I had a good look on the Lostpedia last night, there was some crazy stuff that I missed in previous episodes where the Others referred to Jacob and I didnt pick up. Tricky lost peoples!! You can see a picture of him though, which is what gets me because I cant see him unless I freeze frame, kinda scary. I think ben is so insecure especially about Locke, all his people are starting to shift and he knows it. I dont think thats the last we have seen of Locke though, if Mikhael can make it so can Locke!

Yeah, I love the Lostpedia site. It has a lot of good info about Lost and organizes the info pretty well. I think Ben is extremely jealous of Locke...his ability to heal, and now him hearing Jacob....makes Locke a force to reckoned with.

Wow, thanks for the link, I forgot about Lostpedia. I also forgot about all those previous times that Jacob was mentioned. I don't think I recorded that episode, so I can't slow down a segment like they mentioned to see the picture of Jacob. I seem to remember that he may have been mentioned as a "great man". There seems to be a lot of biblical references and relations as well, so I wonder, also, about those.
