Yes, I look at the caller ID, if it looks like a telemarketer I answer it and usually hang up on them midway. In fact I have done it several times. To be honest with you, I did it because our phone is terrible and I couldn't hear what they were saying. We have a new phone now so I can actually hear them, so I will tell them not to call. Generally I will answer the phone and if I don't know who it is I will say "Hello, how may I help you?" and the caller says "This is X, may I speak to Y?", then I can tell it is a telemarketer and I will tell him/her not to call anymore and we aren't interested. If it is my friends, I will usually just say "Hello, how are your doing?" Pablo

Wow! Thanks for the best response, well our phone is with the phone company. It's that our phone was over 5 years old and I think it was breaking so I would have to always say "HUH?" when anyone called. So if I was a telemarketer I just had to hang up cos I couldn't hear anything. Pablo

I only have a cell phone so I look at the caller id before I pick up the phone. If it is a number that I know or the name of the person I know comes up, I will answer it. If it is unavailable I will not answer the phone. I always say hello when I do answer the phone but never say my name, except for when I am at work. At work, I will say thank you for calling, this is Ken, how may I help you?

When the phone rings I pick up it and say: "Hola. ¿Quién habla?" (Hello. Who is calling?). To tell the truth and all the truth, most times I ask another one at home to pick up the phone.

I do have caller id. I usually answer the phone if I know the party on the other end, I usually don't answer telemarketer phone calls. But I don't get many unknown number phone calls.

Reading your handling of telemarketers makes me laugh..When I cared for an elderly lady with Altzheimers they would call her house..Usually we answered the phone and handled the calls..but when telemarketers called we handed the phone to her..and wasnt long they were gone..She began asking them how the horses were doing or if they could give her a ride home;)+

If I am the one answering I check the caller ID. The only time I answer the phone is when my wife is either gone or asleep. Since whoever is calling is usually wanting her anyway, she usually answers it, after checking the ID. Depending on what I am doing when the phone rings determines how it is answered. If I am gaming and it is a bad time, I can be quite short. If I am doing anything and get interrupted the same applies. In fact, I hate talking on the phone so much...and absolutely loathe hearing it ring so much, that people usually hope I am not the one who answers it. If it is a bill collector or a telemarketer, then watch out. Just because I have a phone number does not mean people have to use it...

I look at the caller id before I pick up the phone. If it's a 1800 number I don't answer since I know is salesmen. Others I don't answer are long distance numbers unless I know the number. I usually answer by saying Hello.
