This is definitely going to date me, since when I was a kid, color TV didn't exist...it was still black and white! Thinking back the shows that I remember watching were...gasp...and don't laugh at some of them...okay? The Lawrence Welk Show (that was my great-grandmother's one to watch) The Ed Sullivan Show The Mickey Mouse Club American Bandstand Thats about as exciting as TV got in those days--LOL So what shows do you remember watching as a kid??

You really met Soupy Sales and have a autographed picture of him, that is nice. As for Shari Lewis, my mother hated when me and my sister would watch that show because we would ruin a lot of our socks trying to make a Lamb Chop. Hahahaha

Yes I remember Batman & Robin. We can't forget Perry Mason and what about Hazel. LOL My favorite was the Abbott and Costello shows, I think they had them on Sunday mornings with the Andrew Sisters. Back then the whole family sat in front of a B&W tv set that had awful reception (you had to get that antenna just right) and as ofr a remote control - HA! we had to get up to change the channel and adjust the volume. The kids today don't know how good they have it. I recently saw on cable the Little Rascals, boy did it bring back memories.

PMSL yup the first time I ever saw television it was on a huge box like object with a tiny little fuzzy black and white screen and the programme was a puppet show called "Muffin the Mule". My Mum used to take me for a long walk over to my Gran's house so I could watch it, as it was something of a novelty back then.

I remembered fighting over the remote control for the shows to watch with my two older brothers. Of course, they always won. I ended up watching Voltes V for many years. We were allowed to watch after doing our homework. Its a Japanese show that's full of actions and dramas.

I watched "loony toones" a lot as a kid. My favorite character was bugs, and I was obsessed with it. I also watched "I Love Lucy" with my mom, and I was obsessed with Sailor Moon. I remember saving all of my allowance money to go and buy a Sailor Moon trading card. Seasame Street was another one that I watched.

That would have to be the Ed Sullivan show I watched as a child. I also watched What's My Line, and Queen For A Day. Back in the 50's tv was so innocent compared to today lol. I remember the Ed Sullivan show was the one we couldn't wait for it to be on again, he had so many unusual guests along the way.

One of the most exciting days of my life was the first appearance of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show! My dad grumbled and complained about it but he gave in and let me watch. I'd have thrown a fit if he hadn't! He made fun of them while they performed but guess what? He came to actually like their music in spite of himself. Annie

I can go back farther than you! Roy Rogers Sky King My Friend Flicka Zorro *I need help on the next one It was on Saturday morning and was all about animals, sort of a pre-Animal Planet program in 30 minute format. My best friend's brother and the "man of my dreams" danced on Bandstand once. It was my biggest fear that being an adult meant that I would A. no longer like pizza, hamburgers, or hot dogs and B. wake up one morning WANTING to listen to Lawrence Welk Music Thank the Great Goddess, I am still waiting for Mick Jagger to call me (but now I also am secretly hoping someone will give Johnny Depp my phone number)~Donna

Well we didn't have colour TV when I was growing up either! To be honest I didn't watch much TV at all as a child - my parents wouldn't allow it, and I guess that's why I'm still not a TV fan even today, and can go days without watching it. However, I was allowed some "educational" TV childrens' shows, which I guess won't mean anything much to you as they were obviously British TV - stuff like "Tales from the Riverbank" which was about the small animals living by the River, and "Playschool". As I got a little older I loved the British cult sci-fi show "the prisoner" which still gets repeated today, and the BBC serial of the book "The Forsyte Saga".

I know this is one of your older discussions Pye, but its a good question to ask. The earliest show I can think of is actually a movie. The reason I remember it is because right before it came on my oldest Sis gave me a bath and put me in pajamas. I remember sitting on the couch and waiting for the show to begin.. When all of the sudden my two sisters were fighting like cats and dogs. Now when I say fight. I mean these two fought to draw blood. I ran into the kitchen and hid under the table. Thankfully that was a short lived knock down drag out it was over and I was watching the Wizard of OZ :)))

Crips Pye, I have no idea but those 2 fought tooth and nail, and with teeth and nails. Blood was almost always drawn. There is only a year in age between them, 11 and 10 years then from them to me. All I remember is how horrible it was when they were fighting and I hid nearly every time. They treated me like a little princess always :))

Lets see, I remember the mickey mouse club, My mom used to watch Jack Lalaine, Dragnet, Leave it to beaver and a few others that escape me at the moment. I can remember being at the baby sitters watching The Smothers Brothers but I think that was a bit later. I remember our first tv was a black and white also with the rounded picture and when it didnt work right Dad would take all the tubes out and take them to the nearest stores test machine to see which one is burned out. Ahhh the good old days. Take care, Terry.

I didn't watch Lawrence Welk - I'd go do something else. Did watch Ed Sullivan, we didn't get Mickey Mouse Club here in the back waters. I remember watching Red Skelton, American Playhouse, but mostly I remember Fury, Sky King, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Mighty Mouse, Uncle Jay (a local kids program that had birthday kids on it & showed cartoons.)

Oh well I remember - I was in 11 or 12 when they were on. Thinking back, I think the earliest TV I really remember watching - because repetition has always been my best memory tool - was Dave Garaway on the Today show - in the mornings while we were getting ready to see Dad off to work.

TV came to Sri Lanka in 1978. It came to us in living colour. But we could not afford a colour TV and we watched TV in black and white. I was about 20 and not much of a kid. I loved Bionic Woman. My other favorites were "The Invisible Man", "Six Million Dollar Man", "Big Valley", "The Little House on the Prairie", etc. (Top Secret: I sometimes enjoyed "Sesame Street" too)

American bandstand was on every afternoon after school. I recall watching Kaptain Kangaroo and Johnny Jinger in the mornings. And Bozo the Clown and loads of cartoons on Saturday mornings. I liked Leave It To Beaver and still do. The Twilight Zone was good. Sea Hunt was also. Sky King and My Friend Flicka...they don't make them that good any more...lol. Now that I am thinking about it, they are popping into my head. The Mickey Mouse club was good. I had a crush on Annette..lol.

Funny, I didn't think anyone else could remember when there was no color television or when there wasn't cable tv and there were only three or four television stations to choose from. I loved Saturday morning cartoons with Farmer Brown and Captain Kangeroo too. I also loved Romper Room.
