I only recycle aluminum cans. I watched something that did studies on recycling and found that the only resourceful thing to recycle was aluminum. They found that recycling plastic, glass, ect was actually exerting more energy and using more natural resources than making the product new. And paper - they actually have tree farms where trees are specially grown to make paper from. That they aren't cutting down just any old trees for it. And in turn these tree farms help our environment too. Especially considering how much of our forests are being cut down to build highways and subdivisions. It's a sad, sad world...

Thats something I did not know, but it makes sense that more energy is used with the paper and plastic and glass. So what must we do with all this junk?

i wasnt aware of this either. so what do we do now? they are going to 'fine' us if we put recycling in the normal bin. it has taken years to get the councils on the case and now we find it is bad when they eventually get their act together.

I just throw it in the trash. Except my newspapers. I burn those in my little outdoor fireplace. That show I watched talked about how after a while once landfills are full they turn them into national parks and some in California are learning to use the build up gases into energy we can use. We don't have to recycle here. It' completely optional. I had no idea that some places actually fine you if you don't.

We have curbside recycling so everything that can be recycled goes into a bag that I put out with the garbage every week. Believe me, my weekly garbage is a grocery sack and my recyclables are 40 gallon bags and sometimes I have 2 to put out every week. I do save my aluminum cans and metal cans to recycle for money and take them in twice a year to a recycle center. I usually walk away with $200 in my pocket from them. I sometimes save the newspapers for the local animal control and have become one of their main sources for newpspers. IF they don't happen to need them when I'm ready to get rid of em, I take them to the Lion's club since they get money for the trailer loads of papers that the whole town gives them. All my kitchen waste gets buried in the garden or flower beds or I put them in my compost pile. I use a mulcher mower to mow my lawn so I never have to use chemical fertilizers. Same with my garden and flower beds. I'm strictly organic gardener here.

Great Stuff!! You are lucky to have recycle bins nearby. I'm trying to get as organic as possible, but its a war really.
