Hi there I was wondering if anyone can help me on this. All I seem to do is eat ice all day long, don't get me wrong I have my proper meals in between but cannot get over this ice eating. My poor hubby has to run to the store once a day to buy me a big bag that lasts 1 day total has anyone heard of this or done themselves? Thank you for your Time Stacy

I have heard of this before. I would let your doctor know because sometimes when you crave things like that and eat that much of it, your body is telling you that you are lacking a certain vitamin or mineral.

Some people develop pica when their blood levels of iron drop low enough to cause anemia. The reason for this isn’t clear, but this connection between pica and iron deficiency anemia is strong enough that most doctors will check a blood count and iron levels if a patient develops a new craving for ice, clay or other chalky substances. Doctors use the term "pica" for craving, chewing, or eating a substance that is not considered a food. Ice is the most common of these substances; other examples include clay, cornstarch, and paper. Women crave ice more than men, perhaps because low iron states are much more common in women. Assuming a person's iron levels turn out to be normal, the craving for ice may be a reaction to having a persistently dry mouth. Another possible explanation for adults having pica may be related to positive sensations from the texture or temperature of the substance inside the mouth. Although not scientifically proven, this seems like a logical theory for craving ice. So my dear if i were you i would deff talk to your doctor very soon..they may have to get you n some vitamins..or something.take care!
