Is it just me or do you other guys go crazy cleaning the house when you know someone is coming over to visit? Everyone keeps saying to me, "Don't worry, it doesn't matter, they are coming to see you, not your house!" But I can't stand anything out of place! And with 3 kiddies behind me messing things up again, it nearly sends me crazy. Any suggestions? My house is pretty good anyway but I can't cope with anything...papers, cupboards open, towels on the floor, anything! It might kill me...

I don't know about "crazy", but yes, I do go through and clean up all the rooms I think my guests might go into while they are at my house. It usually means at least 3 hours or more of vacuuming, dusting and decluttering. We sometimes joke that we should have people more often so the house would stay clean! :-)

We have said exactly the same thing. I know really that people don't mind all that much but yet I can't not worry... I wonder where this panic has come from, I am not a partiularly insecure person. I guess I was raised like that. With that in mind, what am I doing to my kids???

I look at it as a sign of respect to my guests. I know that most of my friends are not going to think ill of me if my house is a bit messy, but I want them to feel very comfortable, too. Getting all the cat hair off the couch so that it doesn't stick to their clothes is part of how I do that, I suppose. Plus, I really like having the house clean, so I think I purposely use having guests as a motivator for myself, once I get going I just have trouble stopping, I guess!

I do the same thing I need the house to be clean when people come over otherwise it bugs me. I am starting to buy a lot of plastic containers and slowly organizing the house little by little Then everything has its own place at all times

An excellent plan, I find i am a disorganised person unless things have a specfic spot - then I am SET! However, as new things enter your house and don't have a spot, and you find you don't have a spot for them....then you are stuffed. Have to keep creating new spots! Confusing, I know..
