Is it because you have to? (obligation, or because a necessity due to assignments or work) Or because of preference? (self improvement) or just to kill the time?

I read mostly because I love to. There are sometimes when I am required to read a book for a class or something, but mostly just for preference. I find books wonderful. I love reading, and I think it is something I will love for the rest of my life.

I used to read for learning, but haven't really done that much since I finished University. Now I just read because I enjoy it, reading is one of my favourite hobbies and has been since I was young. I always have a book on the go, and usually go through one book a week :)

I read for a number of reasons, most of them selfish, but to learn styles of other writers, to be intrigued by going into an author's mind, world or experience as visually through words as possible, to escape the cruel world and find some solace or humor, and to relax. Reading is my escape and writing is my passion . . . sharing the light, Erica, the Enlightenment Advisor M.A. Transpersonal Psych http://www.enlightenment-psych.net

I just love to read for the fun of it. It's really the only time I DO read. Sometimes I read because I have to for school work, when I'm able to go. I do also like the self improvement books, anything that makes me a better person is good to me.

i have things to talk with others by reading the same book with them.otherwise, when talked about a specific topic,i don't even know what they are talking about.it happened before several years ago, that made me embarrased coz it seems that everybody knows that book except me. now,i decide to read some english books, coz i want to improve my english by reading,it's not an obligation or assignment, but my interest,i want to know more about this language and the culture of it.

I read for various reasons...mainly because I just flat out enjoy reading....I love to learn, I love to expand my knowledge, I'm a naturally curious person so reading is one way to satisfy my need for input....sometimes I read to escape the every day life and sometimes I read just cause it seems like the thing to do at the time LOL

I read because I love reading--have ever since I learned to read. I love language and the way the best authors use it. I love to learn new things and understand new ideas. I love to expand my imagination, explore worlds that I'll never get to see in reality, share the lives of people whose lives are completely different from mine.

All of the above. I've joined classes that have had lots of books assigned and have enjoyed most of them. Mostly though, I read because it helps me kill time, and because I prefer it as a means of entertaining myself.
