smoking! It is something I have wanted to do for a long time now. But today I actually put them down and I am now chewing the nicotine gum and drinking water. I can't believe I am actually not smoking because this has been a habit of mine for too long now. I don't even want to admit how long I have been smoking it is shameful. Any way it has been 13 hours for me and I am feeling good about this decision. I just want to encourage others that want to quit and would also like to know If anyone else has any other suggestions along with the gum.

I am glad that you are feeling good today about quitting smoking. That takes alot of strength, willpower and courage to do. I have thought about quitting but I enjoy it too much to do so. I have been smoking for many years also and I know it is an expensive, nasty habit but it is one of the few things that I enjoy doing. You can also try to use the patch to help you quit smoking. good luck and i hope it works for you.

I felt really good that you quit smoking. I never smoke but I am a passive smoker as my father smokes a lot. I get very irritated because of the smoke. I wanted to know about the gum. What is the name of the gum and does that gum gives us the same relief as the smoking. Would it be helpful for my father. Please give me the detalis. Thanks!

It is nicorette gum. Mine is a prescription but I think they have lozenges now that you can buy without a RX. Ask your Dr. or pharmacist.

hey Congrats for taking the first step towards a smoke-free healthy life! I'm not a smoker but i think i can understand how difficult that must be, but with your courage and willpower, you will definitely succeed in your quest. See, its been 13 hours and I bet you are feeling good and strong. Other than chewing nicotine gums, i heard from people who have quit smoking that when you feel like lighting up, you can get a pen and simulate the smoking action. Take it slow and easy, one step at a time, you will definitely succeed!

Thank you gabs. My mom is using the patch right now also and yes they do keep coming off. Sh said she was craving a cig so bad on like her 4th day and couldn't understand why so she thought that maybe her patch need to be changed an lo and behold it was gone. I see they have lozenges out now you may want to ask you dr. about them. I would of but i have enough gum already on hand from my last attempt that only lasted 4 hours. I am going on 2about 19 hours now so I think I am doing fairly well. Thanks again!

Way to go! Keep hanging on. I'm proud of people like you who have the initiative of doing so. . . I've been wanting to quit my vice too, never tried nicotine gum so i guess have to go buy one first thing in the morning tomorrow and see what will happen next. Goodluck and I hope that's not temporary. haha! (",)

yup. it all starts with the initiative to do it... to finally quit. then, determination and willingness to go on with the quitting moments... saying no to cravings. it's kinda difficult according to my boyfriend... but one can really do it if he/she wanted to quit.

Yes it is difficult I am having a strong craving right now. And about the gum I am only using that because I have it on hand if I had to go o0ut and buy something I would buy those new lozenges they have out. They probably taste much better than the gum!!! I think they even have cherry flavor. Thank you both for your encouragement and responses!

Congratulations, it's not an easy task and I commend anyone who do this. I would suggest drinking lots of water - supposedly it helps flush the bad stuff out of your system and find a 'habit' to pick up that is good - needlepoint, crochetting, something to do with your hands other than picking up food (I quit and gained 15 pounds because of my system slowing down and my eating rather than smoking).

Yay! I'm so happy with your decision. This will be a huge achievement for you and I want to wish you the best! Let me know how the progress goes so I can convince my dad to stop smoking too. He's over 50 and it cringes at the fact that he has been smoking for over many decades. I wonder how his lungs look like right now...scary. They are probably gray right now. Anywho, keep us posted!

Good for you! The quit smoking aids actually work if you find the one that is right for you. For me it was the patch. But for different people different methods work. Good luck!

Thank you Grandpa Bob and you are right you have to be ready. I can't believe that I actually am ready because I have wanted to quit for so long and I am at the point where now I am just disgusted with it. I think my walking routine has helped me to make this decision because I just get out of breath so fast. Thanks for your encouragement and responding!

I just quit smoking too, I quit on Mother's Day. I made a promise to my mom for Mother's day. I even put it in writing. It has actually been easier than what I thought it would. Don't get me wrong, I do want a cig. I have taken a puff from my DIL cig. Good Luck to both of us, we can do it.

Friend smoking cannot be stopped immediently. It should be stoped step by step.you should not stop it abruptly because your body will not withhold the pressure exerted by it.And when you see someone smoking you will be tempted and your prressure level will increase.so decrease the amount day by day and stop.

I'm really happy for you! Quitting smoking is a very hard thing to deal with. I quit for 4 months, and regret, that yes I ended up smoking again. The reason I started back up was due to stressful situations. I thought I was ready for anything, and I tried hard not to let things get to me, but they did, and I ended up smoking again. I will be trying again soon to quit. The plan I had made was to make lists about why I had to quit smoking, and I told myself why I had to do it. I had also set a quit date. I had made many changes to insure I would quit. Here are some of them. Got rid of all ashtrays, no smoking in my house, I ate pumpkin seeds like crazy. I also had this little plastic stick from a lolypop that I would hold in my hand or just bite on,and yes it does help. I would also use it in my car. We all have to smoke in the car lol. I also would talk to myself everyday. The only thing that really got to me was the fact that I was hungry all the time. I was not worried about gaining weight. But the empty feeling in my stomach is what got me. I didn't crave smoking just something to fill my stomach. I am not a munchie person, so eating was like a chore for me. Check out different support forms on the web, they are very helpful.
