I am under the eastern standard time zone...3:12PM around my neck of the woods. I do have some questions though...why do some of us observe daylight savings time? What's the purpose of it and why do some observe it and some don't. Do you think we should do away with it? The best answer will when the best response reward. Inform me, please. :)

I live in England and at the moment we are on british summer time and it is 20.33. My son told me that the clocks change to help the farmers when they are growing crops etc. I don't know if this is true or not.

Someone else has presented me that same concept. Your son could be right! :)

Central European time zone here. Daylight saving is used so it's not so dark in the morning in winter, most people suffer from a winter depression and other problems if they don't get enough sunlight, so rather than having it light from 9 in the morning till 7 in the evening they adjust time so it gets light at 8 and dark at 6 in example. Gives people more time in the sun in normal working schedules, taken that most people just don't come outside anymore after 6 either.

I see...my friend lives in Arizona (US) and told me that his state doesn't observe daylight savings time. Do you know why this is?

Hey there, I'm MDT...Mountain Daylight Time MST...Mountain Standard Time I believe we observe daylight savings time to allow my daylight during business hours. Normally during the winter it gets dark sooner, so to avoid people going home in the dark after work. It's basically a way to provide more daylight hours in the afternoon so people can work longer and go home safely. Please read the wikipedia article for further info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time

Yeah I'm eastern standard time too, but only in the summer. In the winter I go south and west to Texas where it never gets cold. I have a banana tree next to the house and Grapefruit growing in the back Yard South Texas is in the Central time zone, and thats ok, except we like to watch the evening news from Toronto Ontario Canada. WEll the 6 oclock news comes on at 5:30 in Ontario but its on at 4:30 in Texas. This takes a while to get used to. During the Great war they started daylight saving time to save time and energy. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I can't remember which Great war it was but i'll guess it was WW1..... have a Great day!
