I read this earlier and thought it was interesting. http://www.teachersmind.com/education.htm In it the author asks about the purpose of education. Is it to train a child with the skills needed in life, or is it to helpa child learn how to find knowledge on their own? Is it to prepare a child to be a member of adult society to to prepare a child to have a job/carreer? What do you think? http://momisteaching.com

For me the purpose of education is to help the kids to acquire the knowledge they need. I was not able to load the link you gave so I was not able to read the article. But for me, I think education is there to help us learn things that we cannot learn at home or in the outside world.

in my own opinion, education is the one learned inside the four corners of the classroom, where you and your classmates learn what your teacher is explaining. everyone has the right to education- to learn, but from what is happening right now to other countries like here in the philippines, education is commercialized, elitist, and is based from foreign curriculum. education is not free. high tuition fees and other expenses prevent other poor but deserving ones to have it.only the ones who can afford to pay these fees could avail this. education is commercialized. why? because it has been a business for other people especially big businessmen and capitalists. third one, it is not based onthe curriculum for the filipinos, that is why most schools here in the philippines imposes a rule to speak english whenever you are inside the campus.. so with these, i think real education is the one that is outside the school, outside the four corners of the classroom.

Education is not just to learn what the text read but to let a child adopting the society and be a useful member in it. After I have graduated the university, I found the knowleage we may forget, but the knowleage have brought to us is affecting our whole life.
