I have so many books and I really love my books. Though if I'm going to get rid of clutter, I need to start getting rid of them. Should I donate them to the library or put them in my garage sale this weekend? Keep them or what?

I grew up surrounded by books and I really love reading and learning. Books also take you to wherever you want to go or whatever you want to experience. It's just so magical. Just too bad sometimes you have to get rid of them for the purpose of decluttering your home. You know what you can do, decide which books you really love, the ones you wouldn't ever get tired of reading, the ones you would like to refer to every now and then and devote a section of your home, even a small one, for your very own library. The ones you have outgrown, like kids' books can be put up on sale for extra money or can also be donated to your local library if selling them would be too much of a bother. Either way, you will still benefit from it.

Oh, that is so my problem, I love my books and I do keep going back referring to things. I've just got so many now, that I can't find the one I'm looking for when I want it.

Hey there Sherry, I would say it's time for a yard sale. I have to have a yard sale about every two years, specifically for computer related books as I go through a lot of books in my line of business. I have people that know and wait for my yard sale and they even arrive an hour before the yard sale is open hoping I will let them see and buy early. But I don't I make sure everyone has a chance to be on time. First come first served. It usually takes me about an hour and they are all gone. I currently have about 100 books and as soon as it stops snowing here for a few days and the sun comes out again I am having another computer related yard sale.

Wow! That sounds great. I haven't had one here for a while, so I know I'm not going to have people waiting. But, I think they are quite a few in my neighborhood this weekend, so maybe I'll get some people.

I would say donate them to the library. We check books out of the library all the time and I think it would be a good way to say thank you to the library for having what we love to read.

I laughed when I read this post because I too have way too many books. I would try making a little off them at your sale and the donating them to someplace. Also, you could list them at half.com for a little extra money. If you are going to sign up there, I would appreciate the referal. You can PM me for details. Whatever you decide, good luck !!

Thank you, I guess I should start going thru them and decide the ones I can live without. If I don't sell or donate them I will be glad to use your referall. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would go through the books and keep the ones you might read again. I would then put the rest into your garage sale. Anything that doesnt sell I would donate to either the library or GoodWill. Good luck on your garage sale.

Thank you for answering. I think that is what I'm going to have to do. Just decide to get rid of some and then do it. Goodwill would be a good place to donate.

I would suggest amazon for the smaller books as there is a minor profit to be made, but they will sit there for a while till people decide to buy them which is a down side unfortunately

Try BookMooch, http://www.bookmooch.com you will be able to trade off your stack of books with people who are perhaps in the same situation, which will solve the problem and allow you to get acess to books that you've not read yet! :)

Books ...do not throw them away . Place them all neatly on shelves. Though you have read them , doesn't it s well arranged look a feast to your eyes. I like books displayed neatly in my home library.

It is good to see people still appreciate books. I have loads of books but am saving them to read and still getting books from the library whilst I am going to get books for my daughter. She reads so much we can't possibly keep up with buying them for her. I thought I would be able to stop but now have to get some for my mum as well! I couldn't bear to part from mine. If you really need to it would be good to donate them to a library them they can be read by lots of people rather than just a few. Sorry if this get in twice it did not seem to load correctly.
