There has been a report very recently in south australia, that suggests far too many women are giving birth by c-section. In fact, the figures are 30%. The report suggests that many of these women only have a c-section for convenience. I had a c-section. I had no choice. It was an emergency c-section. What is happening in your copuntry in this regard? How do women give birth?

I think it is way too common in the US. I know several ladies that asked for csection and was granted one. My personal opinion is that they should be reserved for emergencies only. I've delivered both naturally and with an emergency csection with the birth of twins. If I had my choice, I'd choose natural. I wasn't real fond of the c-section experience because I had problems with scar tissue for years afterwards. In fact, when I had my hysterectomy, they had to repair and remove a lot of built up scar tissue that was still causing pain for me 21 years after the last birth of my children. Oh and if you can avoid it...don't have the first twin naturally and then have emergency csecton...

It builds up on the inside where incission is made. It is actually tissue that adheres to the scar, hence the name. Mine always got very tender during ovalation each month and even infected several times that required antibiotics. It was also one of the reasons my doctor recommended hysterectomy down the road cause that needed to be cleaned out anyway.

what's scar tissue? I'm just wondering because mine's going to be a year already and it doesn't seem completely healed.

I didn't have the scar tissue with my c-section & healed quickly. However, my stomach never really went down properly, & hence, I had the tummy tuck this year.

Most of the people now a days consider preganancy and getting admitted to hospitals and hospitals are for diseasesd persons .If all the animals in the world other than humans can give birth safely ,then there is something wrong in our giving birth methode ,the problem is humans are living so much away from their natural diet which is fruits ,vegetables and nuts,he has to suffer delivery pain.though i havent seen delivery of other animals i learned that they dont have pain at the time of delivery ,seems to be true nature dont want to cause any pain to us. now pregnancy is also is a business for hospitals ,they go for c-section birth since they can demand more money which may not be available through other matters. in india also the trend of c-section is growing more pregnacues are c-section.but in villages the matter is different they give birth naturally coz they work a lot lot of exercise get to those inner muscles which makes preganancy an easy one.

That's a good point about the Indian villagers getting a lot of work & building up their inner muscles.

it can be done by any woman all over the world ,but people dont realise the importance of internal exercise i thinkg yoga exercises will help .or normal house hold works like sweeping wiht hands ,grinding without mixie if wemen all over the world avoid machines all the delivery will be a normal one.

For many years they have been saying that too many c-sections are being performed. I am not up to date on statistics. The driving force, as I understand it, is that doctors who think there might be the slightest risk of danger to the baby are doing this, for fear of lawsuits over any complication. They were saying this over thirty years ago, when I had my first. Thankfully I had the doctor I had, he was patient, and experienced. I had a somewhat difficult birth, my son was large, and I was tired before I went into labor. The doctor was skillful and confident. My son did have a forceps delivery, which is not at all comfortable, but sure beats surgery in my book.

I've heard of and known an awful lot of women, particularly younger ones, who are having elective c-sections. The majority of them did it for 'convience' easier to plan exactly when they were going to deliever. Personally I feel for the women who would prefer to have natural birth but can't and for the ones who have it when it's not required I think they honestly miss out on part of the full experience.

I disn't think along those lines, as I was happy that both my daughter & I were alive, & that she didn't have brain damage.

I don't have kids but I do remember seeing a report on the news that there was a sharp rise in the number of c-sections. I had also heard that it is better to have natural birth but I have known women who had c-sections who dispute that. One of my cousins had a c section and she said that those who keep saying women shouldn't have c sections are probably ones who had natural childbirth and think all women should. I don't know if that 's true or not but there are others that have said the same thing as well as women who said c sections should only be for emergencies.

I noticed when I was pregnant that there was a tendancy for women who had natural child births, to believe that they are right & everybody should be doing it their way!

I think doctor's everywhere are performing way to many c-sections unneccessarily. All of my children were born by c-section. I had my son 25 years ago, so this has been an ongoing practice. Two days before my due date, my doctor told me I was too small and would need a c-section, and he scheduled it three days later. I was only 17, and didn't know any better, and went ahead with it. I found out afterwards that my doctor was planning on going on vacation, so apparently he didn't want to wait for me to go into labor. I don't think there is anything convenient about have c-sections, except for the doctor, I would have much preferred to have mine naturally. If any woman who hasn't had children thinks a c-section is better, I can say it wasn't for me. It is major surgery, it takes weeks to recover from the pain, and after having three I would never want to go through it again.

That is pretty crappy, to make out that you needed a c-section so the Doctor could go on his holiday.

Hi there! I have friends who've both experience csection and natural birth and they told me that they really rather have csection because it's less painful. In my country more people still opt for natural birth because it's less expensive. I had csection too, but it was necessary. Otherwise, I would have chosen to do natural because it's not as costly and I don't like the scar, I know it would be painful but I know I could handle it. I also heard that there are doctors who advised moms to go for csection even if it's not really necessary, because they would charge more.

I know many actresses are scheduling the babies birth, which is terrible to me. My area many babies are C-Sections and many could be born naturally. I had two natural births, but would have a C-Section in an emergency.

for me c-section or natural birth it maybe both of these ways put a mother's life at the edge..so i think it's not about convenience maybe there are reasons why these women chose to undergone c-sectional birth..whatever reasons it maybe still no one can question the sacrifices that mothers are willing to take for her child. no pain is unbearable.

I know of a couple of people who chose C-section rather than natural birth. Their reason: they are afraid of the pain. I am not sure of the statistics here in my country. But I think natural birth is still commonly practice here. There are lamaze classes available nowadays. A lot of couples are partaking in those classes and yet some of them, ended up having C-section. I chose to be unconscious while giving birth to my girls. I don't like the epidural technique. Heard that it can affect our brain memory. I'm not sure about this.

Both my pregnancies were by c-section. Given the choice I will opt for normal delivery. It is too costly to have c-section besides it takes sometimes for the wound to heal. The beauty ofcourse is you have the choice to choose the birthdate of your child. Maybe the thought of labour pain drives many new mothers going for c-section. They don't know the aftermath of c-section is equally painful as labour. No one will be a mother if they have not experienced the pain. The women here are mostly going for c-section despite the cost. The gynea are laughing away to the bank with the craze for c-section.

Yes, my C-section, although an emergency, was very expensive.

I our country also there has been very much increase in the C-section.actually there are combination of reasons for it.There are some who don't want to have the pain.Sometimes there are genuine reasons butsometimes the doctors do it for selfish reasons. It may be monetary gain. But C-section is not so good for the baby i have heard. It diminishes the immunity of the child.

in old time, the leechcraft is very poor,so many women were giving birth by nature birth, but now, many women are afraid of pain from geting birth, and they are so rich that sent the pregnant women to hospital to give birth by c-section.along with the time change, people thought are also changed.

My sister has had 3 c-sections and are of her children are fine and healthy. I am expecting my first child any day now (due date-Monday, 10/15)! I do not think there are any more health risks for natural vs. c-section. I hope to have a natural delivery but only time will tell. As long as our baby gets here safe and healthy, we don't really care what method has to be used. I do agree, however, that c-sections have definitely become increasing in numbers and I am not sure if it is always necessary.

here in hong kong it is common for chinese people to have a c-section. And most of them chose c-section rather than normal delivery. I was a cs mommy too but that's only because I was overdue. 41 1/2 weeks already and they induced me but after 16 hours I would still not dialate and they noticed dips in the foetal heart monitor. So I had to go and have an emmergency c-section. I would have prefered normal birth deliever though.

In Malaysia, it depends, really. We live in a multiracial community with different beliefs and tradition. But basically, it seems like more women are opting for a C-section so they can pick auspicious dates for the birth of their baby, to fit in with their career schedule and so on. Most of the people i know, are either afraid of experiencing the pain of actual childbirth or trying not to waste time in labor. For me, natural birth comes first. If an emergency happens, then i would have no choice but to go for a c-section. I heard for c-sections, the healing period takes longer. My first born came naturally at 8lbs 8oz. And now, i'm just anticipating the arrival of my 2nd one in October. Wish me luck~~

It is hard to give birth- whether c-section or normal delivery. The mother's life is always at risk. And even the babies. BUt to campare c-section to normal, I could say normal delivery is much better, less expensive, and easy and short time of period of recovery. I gave birth c-section. And my sister normal. So I really saw the big differences and the better way of giving birth.
