Are there times when talking with someone, you just want to say something to them that you know will probably offend them or maybe hurt their feelings? Or maybe you are chatting online or reading a friends' blog and think "what are they talking about?" Let's put it to Mylot, since we are all here anyway. Let's say you are reading a friends reply and/or their discussion, and the whole time you are thinking "what is WRONG with this person?" Do you bite your tongue? Or do you tell them exactly what you are thinking? Maybe you insinuate what you are thinking without actually blatantly saying it flat out. I have this happen frequently with my cousin & sister when I see some of the things they post bulletins/blogs/etc about. I have never said anything to them, but sometimes I think "dear lord, how did I come from this family?" Do you ever feel this way? What do you do when you do feel this way?

It depends on my mood, monkey. If I'm in a sour mood, I will gently ask for some clarification if I come across a rude response. But I never bared all my fangs. No sense trying to put myself in the spotlight. I have been here for four months and I'm slowly getting numb with all the crazies lurking here at mylot. I know that mylot is composed of people with diverse thinking. But a little respect and using gentle words isn't hard to do.

I don't do what you are saying figuratively but if I take your question literally, then yes. I do bite my tongue literally when I bite back a curse I have uttered. It might not even be said out loud, just in my mind, I will bite my tongue to cancel the bad things that might happen.

I am not in this habbit of biting my tongue. I will try to express my view in a much polite way that the other party wont get hurt. If it is not possible I will keep mum and later try to convince them. I honestly try not to curse any person. I am a blessing type.

OH MY Gosh I am the queen of doing this. I'm really honest so I do it all the time. It has really gotten me into trouble so now I really think about things before I say them. Like once at work we were at a meeting I was trying to listen. Well this older lady that I work with kept going on and on and on about her eyeshadow at 7:30am. SHe was talking about what color to use on her lid and what to use on her brow. Well I got totally frustrated and I just really wanted her to shut up. I wasn't all that awake yet either. So I said "It really doesnt matter what you put on your lid because the rest of your eye droops down and we cant see it any way." Well that pretty much shut her up. LOL But she never ever forgot it! It's a big joke at work. That is just one of many. BUt it is one of the best. LOL

I bite my tongue a lot. But sometimes it slips out. :) However, if you can't anything good about someone, you shouldn't say anything. People who follow this mantra seem to garnish more respect than others who are loose lipped.

No, i dont have that habbit. Well, if i find something wrong in my discussion or my activity then i do bite my tongue. But, if i find something wrong in others activity, then i usually dont do it. I better feel like expalining them about it. But mostly of the time my biting will be just like that. Its like as i am eating something, unknowingly i bite my tongue and then i think, who the hell cursed me.

That is a type of superstition that few people follow in our country.

I do not bite my tongue but I do not say what I feel right away. Last time, I do say what I feel but after many broken friendships, I've come to decide to think first before saying anything loud.

I've always been a straightforward person, I say what is needed to be said, but I do bite my tongue once in a while. You see, there are things that need not to be said. I mean, some things are just obvious and saying something about it would be overkill or adding insult to injury, so I just stare and say nothing, my eyes will say the rest...

Hey, it usually happens with me also that while in the middle of talking to somenody, I got bite my tongue badly. In our place, its said that when somebody backbites you, you get your tongue bite.....LOL. Really, its saying in our side, so whenever this happens to me, the person I am talking to, I always ask him/her that whether he was thinking something weired about me :-)

It happened to me once. When I said a joke to a guy, whom I know well and he too about me, he misunderstood that it was pointed to him. It was really not aimed at him. In the same night he telephoned me and said his complaints against me. He said he is dropping his friendship with me and asked me not see him any more. I had no option other than a cut. I never met him again. There ended that relationship.

It is unfortunate when we let things slip from our mouth without intending to hurt someone, but we do in the end. that is why I tend to "bite my tongue" Thanks for your response.

I bite my toungue a lot as I am very opinionated, or so I'm told. Who me? Not me, what could they be thinking, they just don't know everything I know that's all. Hah!! Hee Hee!! I find I often have to eat crow and apologize just to keep peace for saying things I really shouldn't have. Sometimes I will not really hear entire conversations becasue in my mind I am thinking things I should say but can't. I think I am more open here than in person though, with comments and responses and not always staying out of it.
