May 19, 2007 4:11pm CST
Barmaid Suzanne Mitchell was nabbed by police after MARRYING girlfriend Caroline Beddoes in a gay ceremony — while still HITCHED to her husband Charles who lived downstairs. Now Suzanne's bizarre love life will make legal history when she faces court this month for lying that she was single on the civil partnership form. And it's guaranteed to have magistrates scratching their heads as they try to sort out Britain's first lesbian bigamy case. For standing by mum-of-five Suzanne's side as she tries to explain herself will be none other than... the forgiving husband she has gone BACK to. And in a final knickers-in-a-twist to the whole affair, Suzanne now wants to DIVORCE Caroline... so she can renew her wedding vows to Charles, 46. now ive heard it all lol from the news of the world webpage for all the story here is the webpage http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/story_pages/news/news3.shtml

This sounds likea classic... "Oh what tangled webs of deceit we weave" Good luck with the poor judges unraveling that mess.

Looks like Suzanne will be getting more than 15 minutes of fame. It does make for some interesting precident. If I were arguing on her behalf I'd say that a civil marriage and a civil partnership are not the same thing or even similar. Therefore, there can be no bigamy because she really isn't married twice. She's married to a male and partnered with a female. I mean, after all, it's like saying a person can't be a party of a corporation AND a separate limited partnership at the same time because the two types of legal unions are too similar. If it's good enough for business purposes it should be good enough for civil unions, as well.

All I've got to say about this is, this is a classic example, and giving new meaning to the word "fickle" and a bit twisted. Poor husband(or rather fool) and poor Caroline and good luck to the judiciary! lol

Wow that is a bizarre story. Sounds to me like the lady is totally confused and doesn't know what the heck she wants.

Wow, what is the world coming to. You think you have heard everything and then just around the corner there is another weirdo. I have given up watching the news as it is usually so bad. I prefer to live in blissful ignorance. I would say 'this takes the biscuit' but I expect something else bizarre with turn up tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope MyLot don't object.
