What do you all think about these websites that advertise for mail order brides? Most of these women are from low income countries looking for a way to find a husband and come to America. I just couldn't imagine getting married to someone who paid for me through the internet. A lot of these women once they are married are in abusive relationships and some of them have actually been killed. Do you think it's really worth it for them? I'm sure some have had good relationships from it but I would say in most cases they are more abusive. And this question is for men too. Would any of you men consider a mail order bride?

Some of the women are desparate and naive. They choose a husband just by one pic.For them it`s not so important to know him better before to make the final step to marriage. They need money and better life abroad. So for them this is bussiness too.

I'm not sure it would be worth it for them, but I don't have to live in poverty so I've never been that desperate to get out of that situation. I do wonder what kind of man would order a woman? I just find that revolting!

I saw a movie called mail order bride. It was a comedy, that first made you feel sorry for the girl because the guy was treating her like a slave, making her sleep in the basement, and cooking and cleaning for him. She ended up getting the better of him though. I thought it was a pretty funny movie. I guess anything could happen with a mail order bride, and it could be bad for both parties when the other person doesn't live up their expectations. Even in the cases where the men travel somewhere to meet their future intended, they marry without knowing each other well enough. It's hard enough these days to stay married and get along on a daily basis with someone you've known for a long time.

I watch alot of courttv and I always see stories about the whole mail order brides and I do find it very weird that they can't find love naturally that they have to have someone pay them for there time that shold be very scary and makes you less of a woman? I don't really think they should ban the whole thing but I do think that it should be cut to a limit you know really get to know the person

I don't know if I can answer that question having my education and living in a somewhat privilaged situation where "poverty" means I can only afford a small cafe latte instead of ordering the large one. I don't agree with it, but I do not want to judge either. I know of men who have used those websites because they were genuinely interested in meeting a unique woman from a different culture, a woman whom they were willing to learn from and respect. It worked out fine for them, but as you said, it doesn't work for everyone, and dangerious situations arise. It is really hard to say unless you have walked a few miles in their shoes.

I couldn't imagine being a mail order bride. I couldn't be that submissive and that quiet. I'm too much of my own person, I don't let anyone boss me around.......plain and simple. My ex step mother in law was pretty much a mail order bride for my ex father in law. I think a lot of it has to do with the families. The family needs the money so they sacrifice themselves for the better of their family. Some don't realize what they are getting into.
