Why do people make fun of others!

Many people still think that the freedom is something they can abuse with:-( I dont understand it not just here, but everywhere. I cant be sure what is the main driving impulse for them to do it.May be this is their way to have attention, they are just bored:-( And sorry that they use their energy so destructively :-(

some people make fun of others because it makes them feel like they are better than others. i think it's some sort of defense mechanism to make people feel better about themselves.

Ohh yess. i have seen some really mean and rude people on here! There was a thread last night..and one of my least favorite mylot users called her son an idiot..hes ateen and been in bad trouble..non the less..i agreed with the other girl/name calling your own son is ignorant..probs or not well she and the host just ripped her aprt..and she wasnt even that rude about it,,,when people are like that,,i think they should be reported and and get a strike..and any more taken off mylot..this is a great community..i hate to see such great people go because of some rude people..tell her to stick it out and just report em:)

I was always told that people who make fun of other people have low self esteem and it makes them feel better about themselves when they make fun of each other. That is what doctors and counselors have told me. They do not feel good about themselves so the only way of being happy with themselves is by hurting others. It is really sad that people have to go that low. It is not good to make fun of people. Just look at what happened at Virginia Tech. You never know when someone will snap these days because of being made fun of these days.

When I was young, I was always bullied or made fun by others. But then comes a time I'm sick of it all and starting from junior high I refused to bow. I don't care how much physical and emotional pain I had to go through, I did it anyway. Looking back to those years I thank myself for willing to take a stand and accept the pain. No rich kids can make me bow to them, no so-called religious people favoriting rich kids will be respected and I have seen how unfairness is punished. This is why I don't want to be unfair, I've seen what happened to them. I don't know what your friends have done to make people do this to them, but if these people have been hurting them without reason, they will meet their match sooner or later.

Tell them not to leave. People can really be mean but Mylot is a very good site to be on. Not all people is like those mean people. tell them to not pay attention to them. I once had a post where someone told me, how come I made silly posts, that I could make better than that. I took it as constructive critisism.

That's terrible that someone has made fun of your friend. I've never had anyone make fun of me here, personally, but I've had some really odd and rude comments made on some of my discussions. People think that they can get away with it because no one knows who they are.
