A topic near and dear to my heart!! I've been saving for a home for 12 years and would have purchased one many years ago, but my profession keeps me moving around a lot. No worries though, I just save more! And since I'm ready to end this career....I could almost touch the dream. These are the agreed parameters between the missus and me.... The house has to have a large kitchen. The ideal would have a stone oven, an island for preparation, and enough room for all the missus kitchen appliances. Eat in table is optional. Since we have four kids, the missus plans to keep busy and maybe open a bakery or resteraunt. If the kitchen isn't right, we won't get the house. There has to be a minimum of five bedrooms with two and a half baths. Again, the missus plans for lots of visitors when the kids move out and they come back for the holidays. The key here is NO white walls. The company I work for has all their house's interiors painted white. I don't care what color the wall are, but white walls won't last. A den for me. With all the junk I've collected in my travels, and all the books I have stored around the world, I need a little space...lol. The ideal would be to have a fireplace in there. Lots of storage space in a house that is no smaller then 2K square feet. Two stories is a must, and it should have a basement and an attic. We're looking at 100 year old houses and are willing to do the work ourselves to repair and restore. The yard will also be big. I'm happy not having neighbors close, but the missus wants enough room to go hunting from the back porch! Yes, she hunts, I don't. Although, that size yard is negotiable... go figure. Last year, we almost bought a brick house that had 3K sq feet of living space, but the family wanted to go to the next location, so we'll wait. This was a Georgian house and when we saw it in person, it had 48 windows! I'd agree with my Dad, that it maybe was a little too much of a house, but if it didn't have some serious flaws, we would have taken it. Our real love is a Victorian Home with "steeples and balconies".

Thank for the concise explanation of your dream house, I also want to have a decent and beautiful house someday, but I guess its my future husband obligation since I'm not earning that much, what do you think? ^_^

In most cases, I'd say yes, but anything that could be saved early will go a long way...that is if you don't marry a very wealthy person! Good luck on your dream...

I would like to have a house with at least 3 bedrooms, 2 bath rooms, a moderate kitchen and a big living room, a garage, a small garden and a communal pool. I think less than 300 square metres will do. I think I am not a highly required person. LOL
