would satan be as powerful as god? would he be the "y" to gods "x"? is he the exact opposite? if god is more powerful, than why not destroy satan. if satan is equally powerful, would he not be a god as well? and when you think of satan, do you say, "satan", "lucifer" or "the devil" (or "he who shal not be named" lol)

The power of the Creator is different from the power of the created. In the book of Job (OT); Job 1:6-12, you will read that Satan was subject to God. And in Revelation, he was overpowered by just archangel Michael (read Revelation 12:7-9). Lucifer was one of the archangels of God before creation; he became Satan (meaning 'accuser') when he was thrown out of heaven due to rebellion-- one of his alias is 'devil'. Destroying Satan was part of God's plan (it was guaranteed in the book of Revelation) within a timetable.

So, god created satan knowing he was going to be betrayed by him? so, in other words, he created satan in order to use him and put an example of what could happen to those who betray god?

but then god already knew he was going to be betrayed, so satan has no free will, so he already knows who will betray him and who wont.

I agree with everything that is said, satan was an angel before he became evil, we are more powerful that he is and thats why he is always busy trying to bring us down, but it is up to us to defeat him and tell him no he has no dominion over us.

if god knows what i will do in the future, and god cannot be wrong, i am fully subject to what god wants. i have no say on the subject.

Is darkness as powerful as light? (I find it ironic that some people equate Lucifer, the light bearer, with the 'powers of darkness'!)

i think that it is possible that light can kill darkness, it is not literaly taken as light itself but the warmth it brings or as it signifies love. light doesn't have to mean a bon fire or fluorescent or a candle light but it is associated to love an opening or that feeling of safety. so, lucifer cannot have that, as i see it he doesn't know how to love for he does, he knows how to respect and would not think of overthrowing god, which angels refer to as the "father" right?;p

Well... I am a great fan of the Charmed ones... the three most powerful witches on Earth. So I know all about God and Satan. As it was explained in one episode... it is essential that there is an exact balance between good and evil. If this balance is broken... you have mayhem. If the balance shift towards good... people get murdered for breaking the smallest rule. It is strictly by the book and people are not allowed any freedom. Anyone breaking a rule is regarded as evil. So anyone believed to be evil is murdered. If the balance shift towards evil... you have anarchy with no rules... and it is everyone for itself. In which case the good is murdered.

It may be offensive but that one reminded me of some part in Warcraft.

God threw satan out of heaven to earth. satan was one of God's angels, and we have the choice of following God or satan, which means that WE are more powerful than satan, God is "sovereign" with supreme power and authority.

Well, the way I see it is: Satan/Lucifer was one of God's favourite angels. Though he was not THE highest angel, he was simply an Archangel. This being the second lowest ranking. From here, after his banishment, Lucifer was still an angel although not called this for being "evil". To me, Lucifer/ Satan just allowed pride to overcome him. Getting back to my point, God can destroy Satan, but then what happens to the universe? The reason we stay alive and exist is not because God wants us here, but because the devil exists and all is balanced. That and Satan is God's Judge for Humanity. Without satan god would have alot more work to do. and when i think of satan, or lucifer, i think or Beezlbub and Leviathan and Gaap and Asmodeus and Belphegor and Mammon....so, i guess the 7 Cardinal Sins

I believe that Satan only has power when we give him power. If we give him no power then he can not hurt us. Because I believe in God, I don't believe in the evil of Satan. With God on my side I won't have to worry about Hell or Satan. No one who believes in God has to worry about Hell or Satan.

Satan has been given certain power over earth. Temptation is his power and we can only defeat him through God's power and authority. Satan is more power when man sins. God is ruler of good and Satan is ruler of evil. If there was no Satan, how could there be Hell? Why would God destroy satan? where would all the sinners go when they die? satan is technically a "god", a bad one.

god is malevolent? didnt jesus say "turn the cheek?" why would god want revenge on the sinners? that would be a contradiction of the word of Jesus.
