Artists: Are you alone?

I just started a discussion about being alone and being a writer. This sparked my curiosity with regards to artists, as well. Again, like I mentioned about being a writer, I'm not involved with anyone in my real life who is a hobby or professional artist despite my many attempts to change this. I'm very active in many online art groups, communities and sites, though. I wonder why this is so. So I ask, artists, are you alone? Are any of your peers professional or hobby artists? Do you connect with other artists at shows, galleries, classes or in groups?

I also feel completely alone. I try to join internet communities, such as www.deviantart.com (by the way, what are yours?) and I am starting a web ( http://h1.ripway.com/missak/ it would be nice if you visit!)where I am trying to compilate my online actions. But in real life I don't find anybody that understands me or take me into account, since I am in the worst place in the world for arts.

Here's a list of where I visit: http://www.myspace.com/art_explorations - I'm amazed at how many other artists are on here and equally as amazed by how many active groups there are. It's been a rewarding experience. http://www.livejournal.com - if you search through the interests for art or the kind of art you create, you'll come up with many communities and other artists. Also a very rewarding experience. http://www.nervousness.org - I've been a member here since 2003 and it's my addiction. It was SO much better "back in the day," but there's still a lot of activity here and it's geard toward those who have a love of mail art. http://www.1001journals.com - I joined this site sometime this year and it's quickly becomeing as addictive as nervousness because I love mail art exchanges, I love art journals and I love the concept of the original site (1000journals.com). I've been on deviantart.com before, but I can't remember the username I picked because it was in 2004. I'll remedy that soon, though. I also have a myartprofile.com account (which needs to be updated badly), a squidoo lense about mixed media art and I write for the mixed media arts topic at suite101.com also. You're in the worst place for arts? We must live in the SAME town because I'm going through the SAME thing! People look at what I create and thinks it's garbage. LOL

This is wonderful, thank you very much! I'll join all that great sites, as soon as I can. I have sent you a friend request in myspace:). Well, I am in Spain, where art is supposed to be like a joke or a wasting of time, but never a job or a professional development, and in the Canary Islands, somwhere by the *ss of the world, where you feel yourself as an ant that has nothing to do in life. It definitly can compete with everywhere in US, althought I know not all places there are New York lol. I want definitly move there, and I hope then I can start building my life as cinema director, good or bad but at least this is a profession there.

Thanks for the links, it always helps to know that there are others who like art and writing - I used to go to courses before, that was where I leartnt to paint, but lately I have been concentrating to earn a living online instead. A combination of the two would of course be a good thing.

I'm very glad you found those links useful - I really like supplying people with as much information as I can. It's been a dream of mine to incorporate art into my income producing activities, but it's been such a struggle. I though self publishing books of art from my art journal would help me in that direction, but it's still very difficult to find the right niche. I'll learn, though!
