Which is a better way to show appreciation to your responders?

Is it responding to their own discussions or commenting? I feel like a lot of people here in mylot really expect a comment on their responses. Sometimes, I really do try hard to comment on each and every responses, but it's hard specially if sometimes, I don't have any comments on their responses. And I don't want to say a mere thank you because that would be against mylot rules. But I always visit the pages of those who replied to my discussions and show my appreciation by returning the favor and responding to their discussions, but there are also times that I can't relate to their discussions so I won't be able to reply so that's when I comment on their responses. Which would you prefer? If you want both...well, you really do want to make things harder for me. LOL.

I would say both BUT I am not expecting people to comment EVERY answer I give What I like is to see that the person who started the thread answers several persons EVEN IF IT"S NOT ME ... at least some answers to show that the person read all the answers and cares about the people who answer But answering your friends discussion is also great way to show your appreciation I would say a little bit of the 2 ... ;-)

Well, I do try to comment on those responses that I feel is needing a comment but like what I've seen, people are really expecting comments on their responses and I don't know what to answer if their response is just a straight answer, no question, no nothing. Maybe I really should work on my conversation skills. LOL.

Is rating with a "+" a good way to show appreciation for a good response?! If my responders really give effort in replying my discussion, i do merit them with "+". IS thank you a violation? I am not sure it is, i just know that no $ will be counted for thank you as comment.

I also rate everybody who responds with a +. Yes, it is on Mylot guidelines. And I've heard from someone that Mylot already gave them a warning for saying just thank you to their responders.

Normally I try to do the comments to my first ten responders as soon as possible if it happens to be in the same time zone. Otherwise I’ll try to reply in the following day. For those simple responses I’ll try to give some related opinions on them. I wonder whether I should give any comments to those long unattended (say one to 3 months) responses in my discussions. Yeah, I do try my best to reply to my responders’ discussions especially those with zero responses even though I had added comments on their responses.

I give comments even to those that are over 3 months old, that is, if I think it needs a comment, otherwise, I just rate it and try to respond to their discussion. It usually takes me around two days to comment to every response if I get a lot of replies.

All I do is start a discussion on a topic close to me. And if and when Mylotters respond, I rate everything. I only comment on the responses where I have something good to say. There are many responses that are well written and there isn't anything to add.

I agree. I feel bad about those well written responses because they've already said everything that needs to be said.

LOL I dont have a preference! But I do like to do both for others. I try to make comments as much as I can, when I have something to add or to say. And I like to respond to their topics too. I only answer the discussions that I feel I can add something, or can answer properly though. If I can't then I look for more of their discussions and usually I can find a few to answer!

LOL. Don't worry, giving a + is a given to everyone who answers my discussions. Except for those nonsense replies.

Instead of just replying their discussions as an appreciation, you can do the same favour by searching their discussion with no response and make respond with good tags. In that way you can make a good thanks for doing so, in increase in the ratings of the member.

I'd love to do that but I don't spend all my time here in mylot and searching does take time. If their discussions with zero answers is about one or two page in their profile, then of course I'd answer.

Well, I try to acknowledge everyone's input with a + but it's hard to comment on everything specially if I'm not a good conversationalist.

well, its really not that hard to do both. but if you really want me to choose, i'll choose to give a comment to their response. because when you give comments to them, i think they become a little bit glad. they are happy because you said that you thank them for sharing and all [or any kind of comment]. because if you don't give comments to them, they'll think that they wasted their effort on making a response and they'll feel that what's the use of responding. but even though i chose this over responding to their own discussion, i still try to give give responses on what discussion i can relate to that they made. =]

I do want to say thank you but a simple thank you would probably get mylot's attention.

I think that if I start a discussion and people respond I owe it too them to really read what they have written. If they aske questions I will answer. I will also respond if I feel I have something to say, add or ask them about. I will not, as you, just say something that has little or no meaning. I do not expect people to come and answer my discussion if I reply to theirs. But it always nice if people do. I get very happy when people think I have posted something that they feel like responing to.

Oh, but I do read what they have written. I don't just post a discussion and not read it. But the problem lies when the person just gives a straight answer. I'm not a great conversationalist. I can't make a discussion go on and on forever. In real life, If I get asked a question and the person answered straight with no question whatsoever, then that's it.

I think you should respond a discussion responder if you have a sparetime to answer that. That myLot communities work. You can respond with many way, just a little thinking to respond that discussion.

Okay, thanks. I'll try to comment more even if it takes up around 3 minutes to think of something witty to say.

I like a positive rating and if you have the time, respond to post I started. I don't look for answers to my responses.

It is hard to respond to all the post on your topics, (except for me as I don't get responces to my post)Maybe at the end of the post when your ready to move on just a general thanks for everyone that visited and responded. I would leave the personal responces to those who realy put some thought into their responce, and for those who just want to argue with some one and do not realy care about your topic I would just... well you know what to do. Anyway I realy enjoy your posts so far.

Thanks! It's been a while since I last logged in so I'm trying to make up on responses and comments. Good response though.

Basically, when I have responders and friends I always check out their profile and make sure I respond to their discussions as well. I also try to visit their links to their websites/blogs etc... if they have any. It makes it easier to get an understanding of the various people. It sure keeps me busy though :) cheers,

I usually rate all the comments to my posts, and if there is a post that interestes me I'll rate those too. I'll make comments if it is apporpriate but don't like to just make a short post like , good point, or I like that. I will go back to discussions I've responded to and see if there is something new I like from it and will respond later to that. I will rate any post that I respond to also.

Oh yeah, I really don't like it when people just say, "good point". It's like they're just commenting for the sake of commenting.
