I just got home after spending over 12 hours at the hospital. For those of you that don't know, my boyfriends dad had surgery for pancreatic cancer today. things went very well. they got all the cancer and there is no sign of it anywhere else. He is still not out of the woods but it is a great relief to me. He will be in intensive care for about 4 days and he will have a stomach tube in for 6 weeks. Its going to be rough for him but he is alive. I want to thank everyone who prayed or sent well wishes. It was greatly appreciated.

Brendalee, I am so glad to hear that your boyfriends father is doing well. I did not know that pancreatic cancer was operatable. I guess I have been out of medicaine to long. I know it is a relief to you and your boyfried that his dad is holding his own. Now the hard part begins. Good luck with helping him through the recovery. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Most of these cases are not operable. We got lucky. "At the time of diagnosis, only about 20% of pancreatic tumors can be removed by surgery. The standard procedure is called a pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure)." This quote is from this website.... http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000236.htm

This is good news. There is a lot the specialists can do for cancer nowadays. To surgically remove all of the cancer is a great bonus. They may still want to do chemo or radiotherapy just to be on the safe side. Yor Father-In-law is lucky to have a concerned girlfriend-in-law.Hope he goes well.

That is super wonderful news! I'm so glad to hear that they got the cancer out- Hopefully with the treatment- chemo if needed - he will be cancer free and be able to live a great normal life- There is so much cancer these days- but thankfully medical technology is improving also- I will keep him in my thoughts for a speedy, cancer free recovery! And you and your boyfriend also!

That is so awesome hon. I'm so glad he came through it ok. Will he have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy at all? I'm just glad he's still with us. The power of prayer is so amazing. I will continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers hon. Now go sit down and breathe another sigh of relief, ok? LOL Big hugs to you my dear friend.

I am so glad that everything is stable and that the operation was successful. I know when a person is ill in the family, it puts a lot of strain and heartache on every member concerned and I can imagine the sigh of relief that is being felt by every one there. I have had a lot of relatives pass on with cancer so I can empathize totally with the nerve wracking experience you have just all gone through. I wish him and your family all the best and for our good man a speedy recovery. You can all enjoy each other's company more also. We often take our loved ones for granted until something drastic happens don't you agree? Have a great day and thank you for sharing.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your boyfriend and his father for a smooth speedy recovery. Any surgery takes some recovering from, but with the well wishes of his family and friends, and the care of the doctors and nurses, he'll be just fine.
