Recently, I saw the series "How Star Trek Changed the World." This series was presented by William Shantner and talked about the various things that were present in the Star Trek series that have become a reality now. The show was interesting and contained stuff like Cell phones etc. Anybody else saw the show? Any comments? Cheers! Ram

I have neither seen nor heard of that but I thank you for bringing it to my attention. The whole house is a set of Trek fanatics and we would love to see that. I often think how much better he world would be if some of the policies and ideals that are espoused by the federation were incorporated into the real world. I will have to have a look for this. Do you have any idea if it is out on DVD or is it somehing you saw aired for television?

I cannot agree more with you. Some of the Federation goals should be implemented and all this global interferences in each other's affairs would end. Cheers! Ram

no i haven't had the pleasure of seeing this episode, i watched star trek for many years , with the dream of liveing these scenes. the idea of a utopic space, transends any invention that may have come from the series. thousands of people on one long flight that "goes where no man has gone before" where the whites and blacks and green and orange, and pointy eared thingies can all live together in a confined space, and still get along, well sort of get along. but that was the suspense

I would recommend that you watch this series when you get a chance. If you had liked the Star Trek series you would also love this series as to how the concepts introduced in the series got the scientists thinking about them leading to their final invention!! Cheers! Ram

I've caught it a few times, & I'll have to agree with a previous poster, Frikes steals the show. But I'm not that big a Shatner fan & I find him hard to take. Besides, all that stuffs been around a while.

I probably am in so much love with Captain Kirk, that I would take Shantner any day in any form :) Cheers! Ram

Yep, I sure have. My favorite part of it was seeing Jonathan Frakes (Riker) in his jammies, waking up after a horrible nightmare (inside joke there from a Next Gen ep where Riker goes batty) screaming "Kiiiiiiirrrrrrk!" (Inside joke, Kirk screaming "Kahhhhhhn!" You really have to be a Star Trek fan to appreciate all the inside jokes! While it was interesting in some parts, it lost momentum a few times, and I felt like I was watching something that was meant for those who don't know Star Trek in all its incarnations. Still, it was humorous enough to make me watch the whole thing, three or more times. (When there was nothing else on TV.) Frakes totally stole the show. ;)

I for my part loved the portion involving Dr. McCoy and non-intrusive diagnostics, probably because I am into it now :) Cheers! Ram

Yeh, have seen it twice on Discovery Channel, I don't think it's that weird though as to how many things of today are similar to that. After all, the ones making the new technology of today are nerds in the age range of 20~40 mainly, of which most of them grew up with Star Trek at some point in their lives. A massive load of seasons to inspire them, it's not all too strange.
