Saying thank you for best response/ Is it really against the rules now?

I hardly see anyone who says "thanks for best response" anymore. I´ve been on this site for quite a long time and the vast majority of mylotters used to thank the person who had marked their response as the best one. Recently this seems to have changed. I don´t want to go against the guidelines (the subject is not mentioned there) by posting a comment with thanks for BR included, but I like the people who gave me a BR to know that I appreciate it. Am I being to polite? Should I stop saying "thanks"? Do you still say "thank you"? Or do you think it´s a waste of time? Please share your thoughts.

Hello, dana,I do not always say thank you when i get the best response,,but I may add something when i see some comments to me for the best response given to me. I think what the guidelines mean is we should not just add comment to the replies by saying thank you for the replies, but if you get some other comments and then saying thank you for the best response should be fine.

Oh, I get it. It should be an actual comment to another comment directed to you, then it would be like a conversation, not a simple "thanks".

I agree with easy888. Add something a little more then a simple thank you and you'll be fine. Normally, I try to do that, but I really don't care if they delete my response since in my mind I did right.

I know exactly what you mean Dana and since all the deleted discussions responses etc I have stopped saying thanks in the discussion, which I always used to. Now I try to leave a thank you for br comment in peoples 'my comments' space in their profiles - I am not taking any chances but still showing my appreciation! xxx

Good idea. I´ll still have to learn how to create those fancy comments. Well done. It´s not worth taking chances.

It is probably best to send an email if they are your friend which selected you. Other than that I guess it is frowned upon now to correspond in that way. I have not said much when I have recieved the BR in the past. I have never understood the value of it when friends pick the ones within hours of starting a discussion or only select their friends or ones that agree with them. Like the stars I would think it best to be dropped in the long run. Good luck with yours!!

Yes, I also thought of sending an email if I received a BR from a friend. If it´s no one from my list, I guess I don´t thank them at all. Can´t help feeling that it´s a bit rude, but that´s how it goes, I suppose. I usually let at least 4 days go by without rating BR.

I say it and I say thank you for other things also. I dont understand any of this either but it is like telling someone great job are they going to stop that next or are we to just talk like robots to each other. Who ever started the boo hoo about us saying thank you, your welcome, congrats, or what ever else I say to them is.... We americans we raised to be polite and say these things when needed and now we are being told not to, I just dont get it. Hugs!

i always say thank you to anyone who gives me BR right under the discussion. mylot does not say anything about thanking someone when you get BRs, although i knew that i won't get any points in doing so. it's a sign of appeciation for me anyhow.

I didn't know you couldn't do that, as long as you added something elseinto the comment. You know what I mean? Something like, hey we're on the same page with the purple giraffe thing. I think they do look good with the yellow giraffes. They complement each other, and by the way, thanks for the BR.

I see what you mean, the comment shouldn´t consist of T..... for BR, it can only be part of it.

i do not believe it is against the rules for thanking a person for giving them the best response. This only applies to giving this comment to everyone that replies to your discussions. That is when it is definitely against the rules but you can private message myLot if you are not sure and they can answer that for you. Some people only say thank you for replies and do not add any quality replies or discussions.

I agree that just saying thank you without adding anything else to the comment just takes up space. I hardly ever see this in discussions now. :-).

Well, now I´m going to have to include the forbidden word, lol: Thanks for letting me know, gabs. If the site says so, it must be true. Don´t forget to check your comment box.

I still say Thank You if I realize that I have gotten the BR, but not always. For me, an e-mail would bother me. It doesn't bother me as much if the person didn't say anything at all.

That´s ok then. I thought that people might not like the fact that they don´t get a reply related to a BR.

Sometimes I express my thanks with another comment under the BR. Sometimes I will PM the person if they are my friend. I try to be thankful, but do not always get around to it. I do not think it is against the rules, but it needs to be more than just a repetitive phrase.

I used to send a thank you PM for best response. But it became too time consuming, as I am only on dialup. What I did a few weeks ago, was start a discussion, thanking people for giving me best responses. I listed all of their usernames.

I didn´t know that this was allowed, thought that discussions where we thank people for something got deleted. Good to know that they don´t.

I'm not sure if it's against the rules or not, but personally I just find it rather annoying to see nothing but thanks for your response underneath each and every single reply a discussion has gotten. It makes it difficult to read through the real content of a discussion. It really should be implied that you're thankful they replied. It's just pointless. I only reply to a discussions replies if I have something to add to what was said, and not just thanks for your reply. Have a nice day. It's rather irritating because it just seems like message board spam to me.

A slight misunderstaning. What I meant is saying thank you for best response, not for every response you get. Have a nice day.

I still thank the poster for the BR if I happen to check my BR. I did not see anything about this on myLot guideline. I feel it is only basic courtesy to thank whoever gave the BR. It is sort of an acknowledgement and I guess the poster feels good he is being thanked too. Normally, I will thank with a comment. It adds to the discussion.

I'm fairly new here, and I have only been selected best response 3 times. I just found them today and just left a thank you response. Now I hope I don't get in trouble for it. I just thought it was good manners. Can I plead dumb on this one?...lol

I still respond with a thank you. I have not responded with a personal email. I have never received a comment from the Mylot staff or others. I will continue to respond with a thankyou until I hear otherwise.

Just because there's no one that says "thank you" for giving you a best response, doesn't mean it's against the rules to do so. Even if it was against the guidelines, there's another, alternative way to thank him/her just in case, and I do this when someone gives me a best response: Giving a positive rating to the one who gave you the best response, so that he/she will get a higher star rating as a reward, and the higher a star rating, the higher one's pay in Mylot for one's replies.

Well done, Duo Maxwell. I give everyone who replies a plus rate (unless the response is offensive or doesn´t make any sense). A few days after I choose BR, that way the person gets that plus a plus :-).

Actually it depends on person and nowdays people lack courtesy to say thanks as they are here just to make some money

For the longest time I did not know that there was a place where I could check best responses LOL and yet it was right there staring me in the face. I didn't go back to the earlier ones but I am making an effort to thank all those who give me BR as of last month.

You means saying "Thanks for the BR" is now against the rules too? :( If we can't say Thank You then why bother allowing us to give a BR in the first place? They've done away with posting jokes and recipes, what's next? Never mind, I don't think I want to know. :(
