What did you want to be when you grew up?

When you were little, people probably asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up? What was your answer? Doctor? Lawyer? Teacher? Artist? Did this change as you grew up? I went back and forth between writer, lawyer, and actress. I ended up in music--it's not too different. I've always loved performing, so any of those careers would have been good for me.

I used to want to be a commercial airplane pilot when I grew up. When I did grow up a bit I realized that not only did it take hellish training and dedication, the courses also cost a lot of money. Right now I'm not sure what I want to be yet, but I'd probably pursue a career in marketing. Or be a lawyer. If I can.

You could have the best of both worlds. Go to law school, make bucketloads of money--then after you've worked for a few years and and have enough in savings, you could go back and get your pilot's license. I thought about doing that myself--doing investment banking for a few years so I could make money, then go back to music and theater.

I suppose that's possible but I'd like to stick to one career as much as I can, and perfect it...If I wanted to be a lawyer, I'd be the lawyer that can turn even blatantly obvious bad guys into innocent little angels :) Although, I do like flying...I wish it wasn't so expensive...

Yeah I guess I can see the merit of sticking to one career and doing it well. If you're worried about the cost of flying courses, remember that law school is expensive too. Three years in law school at $30,000 a year is something to take into account, though I don't know how expensive pilot's courses are.

The 1st thing I remember wanting 2 be was a cartoonist, around age 8 or so. I was always a "2 myself" type of person, so while most of the kids on my street were out IN the streets, playing football and runnin' around, I was always INSIDE, drawing, and doing other SOLO things. Later on, I found an old Dr. Seuss book that I'd been given around age 5, and in 1 section of the book, it asked, "What do u wanna be when u grow up?", and it listed a bunch of different occupations, and I wrote MUSICIAN! I'd 4-gotten all about writing this, 'til I discovered it YEARS later! I find this interesting, since I ended up pursuing music, and teaching myself how 2 play keyboards. My sister used 2 have an organ when I was a kid, and I'd always "toy" with it, since she never gravitated 2-wards it. I also played the upright bass in 7th grade. Basically, I did well in ANYTHING pertaining 2 ART, whether it was my drafting class, calligraphy, ceramics, etc. And, I gravitated 2-wards the dancers in high school. So, I've always gravitated 2-wards the ARTS, in SOME shape or form! And, this NEVER changed 4 me! I discovered, early on, that a conventional "9-5" lifestyle was NOT 4 me! Later on, in addition 2 music, I explored acting as well. Ultimately, I'm an ARTIST at heart!
